Hi Everyone! I just wanted to check in and say hello and that I'm new to the site. So far I love what I have seen. I'm through all the pre-op tests and am waiting to hear from the insurance company. After they come back with the Ok (I'm thinking positive here ) the office will schedule the surgery. I'm working with Dr David Giles at the University of Conn Med Center. Has anyone else had their surgery with him? He seems very dedicated and caring. I'm having a hard time being patient. This has been a 3 year process really. I'm 36yrs and a full time student working on my veterinary nursing degree and work part time. My biggest concern right now is that the last I heard the first date Dr Giles has available is Aug 18. If the date gets delayed any longer, I think that I'm going to have a problem with the fall semester. So keep your fingers crossed for me! Take good care! Brightest Blessings Heather in Avon

Welcome to the boards Heather! I think you'll find lots of useful information around here. Be persistent about pushing before August, so you can get things done before your deadlines. Persistance does pay off. I hope everything goes smoothly for you. Keep us updated on your progress. Take care, Michelle

Hi Heather, I know what you mean about it affecting the school year. I attend UCONN/Avery Pt. and I already know that my surgery date will affect the fall semester. I don't have a date yet, but from what I hear, the going rate with my dr. is about 8 months, which puts me around Nov./Dec. I just don't want it to affect the last two weeks of school. I figure I can miss one of each class. So good luck with a date!

Hi Heather, Welcome! This is a great place. You will find that out rather quickly. It's the best place to get information. I am like a sponge when I'm here. The process is very long, but worth it! I just got my date confirmed today for surgery...so I know what you are feeling. Hang in there, and lean on us for support and information. JA

Welcome Heather! It's always nice to see new people popping up. I'll hope that your date falls when you want it. It sounds like you've got all your ducks in a row; I know my insurance approved me 5 days before my surgery, so hang in there! Good luck! Kathy F.

Hi Heather, I am a patient of Dr. Giles and love him very much. My surgery was 11/19/03 and I have lost 85 lbs and feel great. There are other patients of Dr. G in this site and I am sure that they will contact you also. We have a monthly support group at UCONN on the second monday of every month. You should definetly stop in. I started with the group 7 months prior to my surgery and learned so much and made some new friends for life. I understand about your date delima but you must be patient. You will get back on your feet a little more quickly then us old timers. Many of his patents were back to work in three weeks. Stay in touch, and I hope that I see you at the July meeting. We are having a fashion show with Dress Barn.
