Just a Little Vent....
Sorry I couldn't make it on Saturday, I was so looking forward to meeting people from this board! Unfortunately, my fiance was so ill that I had to rush him to the doctors so they could try to determine what was transpiring. As you can imagine, I have been a basket case . Well maybe next time.
Went to the nutritionist for my first appointment on Thursday of last week. Since I have been keeping a food log including calories, and amazingly have lost some weight since the beginning of the year (6 pounds, but hey at least I haven't gained) I only have to lose 2 pounds before my visit with her on July 13th.
The stress test is still on schedule for the 9th of July, so hopefully after seeing her in July it will be time to get the ball rolling as far as seeing the surgeon.
As some of you may know, I was terrified and overwhelmed when I found out that lap banding is NOT an option for me, that I could only go VGB or RNY. As it turns out Dr. Barba would probably, according to the nutritionist, only do the RNY and at my BMI it would have to be open! Talk about being thrown for another loop!!!! I am almost incosolate these days, and everything is turning upside down!
Thanks for letting me vent as always. What would I do without the CT Message Board?? I surely don't want to find out.
Ciao,

Don't get discouraged about the choice of surgery. I also go to Dr. Barba and wanted my surgery done laprascopoly and because of my BMI was told that it would be safer open. I took his advice and had my surgery on June 2nd. I am thrilled that everything turned out okay and was very easy. Dr. Barba has been doing these surgeries for a while and he is the best judge what is best for you. Keep smiling and think positive!

Robin,
Thanks so much for your kind words. It is wonderful to hear of someone who has gone to Dr. Barba. I haven't come across loads of people.
At some point if it is okay, would I be able to talk to you about your experience? Congratulations on your surgery. Wow it has been about 10 days for you. Do you mind me asking how you are doing?
I will keep you in my thoughts, and again, thanks for the encouraging words.

First of all, I hope the fiance is feeling better.
Don't get too upset about the changes in the options. I know I wanted the lap band pretty badly, but when I found out the risks/advantages of having RNY, I came to accept it. And as far as having it open vs. lap, a lot of people are having it lap because more doctors are learning the procedure, but truth be told, your chances of side effects, etc. are LESS with the open procedure. And as for the VBG, it's becoming an outdated procedure, so I don't think there are many doctors in our area who are doing it any longer.
Keep hanging in there -- it's all going to be fine, you're going to have the surgery that's right for you, and we'll be here for you.
Good luck!!
