I know there are many Dr. Aranow fans here, however two years ago I was not approved by the psychologist, Kim Daniels, that he used at that time and maybe still uses. I don't want to try Dr. Aranow again, can someone recommend another doctor in either Fairfield or New Haven county?
mary ellen,
i have not had my surgery yet, but i have chosen Dr. Bell out of New Haven, and everything i hear about him is positive. I went to my first Group SUpport Meeting on Tuesday, and it was VERY good... The post ops said he had a great bed side manor, and was extremely thorough
Just my opinion..but i would give them a call..also..read some of the ct posts and see who is post op what they say of their doctors

I have chosen Dr. Bell as well. Approximately 3-4 yrs ago, I saw Dr. Reinhold, and I was not impressed at all. However, I truly trust in Dr. Bell. His heart is in his patients' lives! He is very well informed about gastric bypass; does it the least invasive way, and will give you unlimited time. He does not "make" you use a specific person for the psych eval or nutrition eval. and he does not require a presurgical diet, which I find ridiculous, because if we could follow such a strict diet, we wouldn't need gastric bypass surgery now would we?
Just my opnion too...Good Luck. If nothing else, attend one of Dr. Bell's support group meetings.

I used Dr. Ralph Crum in Norwalk and would do it again in a hearbeat. He has since done my tummy tuck and it is great. Whoever you choose just make sure you ask the tough questions about their complication rates and mortality rates. Also a very important to question to ask is how many weight loss surgeries have they performed. If that number is under 100 I would continue my search. Any doctor will tell you that with this particular surgery, if you are having it laparascopically, has a very severe learning curve and the big bad stuff generally happens in the first 100.
Also make sure that they have a comprehensive after care program. Studies have shown that when follow up and support stop so does the weightloss success. Best of luck to you and please feel free to email me if you have any questions. [email protected]

Hi Mary Ellen:
I would recommend Fairfield County Bariatrics in Norwalk, CT.
They perform surgery at Norwalk Hospital
(which I have had nothing but good experiences with the testing so far).
It is my understanding that they soon will be doing surgery at St. Vincent's Hospital in Bridgeport.
Here is a link to their surgery page on OH.

They run a seamless office, with a staff that is caring and concerned.
There are 3 surgeons on staff. Dr. Neil Floch, Dr. Craig Floch and Dr. Timothy Ehrlich.
I switched from a previous surgeon to them and am happy I did.
Fairfield County Bariatrics has a very comprehesive program encompassing all the follow up elements needed (in my opinion) for successful surgery and successful weight loss.
They are having an info seminar on June 15th.

What Carol Sodaro said above is very important with reference to experience.
Remember, each of us is different, both patient and surgeon. Finding that right combination is important.
I wish you luck.
