Hi!   Does anyone have Anthem?  How long did it take you to get approved for the surgery?  The dr's office has submitted my info for approval.  My only issue might be that I don't have any complications due to my weight documented (diabetes, hbp, gerd, etc), so I'm worried that my high BMI alone might not qualify me.

I have Anthem Century Preferred because I am a teacher and I had no problems at all. They took a few weeks, which felt like the longest couple of weeks of my life, but everything was covered aside from the overnight stay that my surgeon required and all that entailed was a 200 dollar copay. I am sure you'll get approved as long as you have a BMI of 40. Do you have any family history, because that is taken into consideration as well. Good luck and keep us posted!

Same answer.  I didn't even know it had been submitted yet and it was approved.

Same with me.  First consult 9/21, approved 10/17, surgery 11/9.  No problems!  And everytime I went to someone to have pre-op testing, see the psych or the nut, all I heard was "Oh, you have the GOOD insurance!"  I also had no comorbidities, just a BMI over 40.  You'll be approved before you  know it!

I work for the DOT and have Anthem also. I was told there will be no problem with getting approval.

Thanks everyone.  I'm getting a little worried because I think it's been a few weeks since they said they would be submitted it for approval.  I'm sure the holidays doesn't make the approval time any faster.
