1st post: I have a date!
Hi ! I am Diane and my date is January 9!! I meet Dr. Bell for my 1 on 1 January 4th, and my moods swing from total elation to total panic! I did not expect the date to be so soon! I feel like there is no time to get myself and my family ready. I know for once I need relinquish control of my castle. It will be ok if my husband dresses the kids in clothing that does not match, and they will not perish from t.v. dinners while I am in the hospital. I am finally taking time for ME! Any advice or information is welcome!

Congratulations Diane & Violet!! Don't worry about the kids.... they will probably love the tv dinners and miss-matched socks!! Warning though.... those tv dinners are going to smell outrageously good during those two weeks post op when you are on liquids. I would usually take a walk when the hubby would start cooking because the smells made me crazy. I found the hospital room to be really hot so I sent hubby out to buy me a fan which made me much more comfortable. I also made sure I told the anestesiologist that being put out makes me queasy so he made sure I had IV meds for the nausea after surgery and I would get more in my IV every so many hours for my entire stay. If you think that anestesia may make you nauseous make sure you mention it and ask for the medication. Day 2 you will probably be able to shower. They didn't have an actual shower chair so I just moved the one from the dressing area into the shower and sat while hubby hosed me down. I have to say that first shower felt great. All in all I thought it was a pretty easy surgery & recovery for me. I had previously had breast reduction surgery a few years before the RNY and the RNY was a piece of cake in comparison and easier than my c-section. Anyway, you are in great hands with terrific surgeons. I hope that the male nurse is still on that floor.... I can't remember if his name was Mike or Steve but he was a total angel.
