Hi Everyone, I have been reading everyone's posts and want to say thank you to everyone who shares their stories. I have learned a lot from everyone! I had my Cardiac, Pulmonary, Stress Test and Psych Eval already. Tonight I go for my sleep study and next week for my nutrition appointment. I'm so excited that I'm getting closer! I can't wait till the surgery. I'm wondering how long it took for you guys to get an appointment with surgeon and then a surgery date? Was it many months or just one or two? (Dr. Barba is the surgeon)

Hi Amy Congratulations on your progress so far. Good luck tonight with the sleep study. If you're like many of us, you won't feel like you slept much. I am also a patient of Dr. Barba. I started the process last November, 2003 by attending an info session. I then scheduled all my appointments and tests right away and finished them all in February, 2004. I then could not get in to see a surgeon until April. Following that, I was told I would hear back in about two weeks on a surgery date. The office got very back logged and it took a month to get a surgery date. That wait was very difficult! I was going crazy. It's a feeling of coming so far and doing your part and then coming to a complete halt! My surgery date is July 29. So, all in all. the process will be about 8 months for me. The practice is trying to get it down to six months but I think it all depends on the time of year (i.e. holidays, summer vacations, etc...). I have only met Dr. Lorenzo but Dr. Barba is doing my surgery. I am thrilled about that as I have heard so many great things about him. Good luck and let us know how we can help! Leslie

You've gotten a lot done! I didn't go to Dr. Barba so I can't help you on that front. I only took about 3 1/2 months from consult visit to surgery, with the tests in between. I had my sleep study at Stamford Hospital, and I have to tell you I wanted to move in! It was like a nice hotel room with a really comfortable bed. In spite of all the wires & accessories, I slept like a baby. Here's hoping you'll have a similar experience. Good luck, and just keep coming back to the boards when you have a question or need a word of advice. It's a great place to come!! Kathy F.
