Hello again, Just wanted to comment on a couple of things. The drainage tube isn't that bad, just an icky feeling when the Dr. pulls it out. I wouldn't be worried about it at all. I did keep it pinned to my gown so I could walk around. Recovery was the only time I remember being in any kind of pain, but I think it was more like I was waking up and in discomfort. That all ends when they give you the morphine and you wake up a little from the anesthesia. It's something I would do again if I had to. I don't remember the breathing tube at all, although my chest and throat are sore, like I had a bad chest cold. It's good to cough that stuff out of your lungs though. ( I found this easier while bending over a little ) I really didn't have to bring anything to the hospital. They have everything you need there. I did get to take a shower on the last day, but only a half shower as I couldn't get things wet, so my stuff was useless. You only need the clothes you wear into the hospital so you can wear them out and 1 extra pair of underwear and maybe some pads (no tampons) to wear when you get your catheter out, b/c if you can have a period, you're going to get it w/surgery, regardless. I brought my own brush and a book (didn't read it, was too sleepy). So really, just bring the basics and hope for a short visit. Also, the catheter wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be. It was just annoying to carry around the hall, but by that time I had no pride anyhow. It was nice to get it out and go to the bathroom myself and put my own undies on. BTW, today is day 4, I'm feeling a lot better than yesterday and the other days before, so I know there's light around the corner. I must be doing good if I can sit here and type this long I'm getting my walking in, but doing lots of napping too. I'm really tired, but I'm on Tylenol w/Codeine right now as well. My only complaint is a little discomfort on my left side, not sure what they did over there, but it pulls a little more over there when I get up. Things are a little weird now, b/c I don't know what's normal and what's not. (movements, pains, etc.) Well, that is about it for now. I hope this helps.

Michelle, You are doing great. I am told that the left side hurts more due to the fact that that is where most of the work is done. Every day gets easier. You will be amazed at how much better you feel every day. You are definetly doing well. I was out of it for the first two days I was home. Make sure you rest when you need it and keep on walking. By day 7 I walked outside just for a change of scenery. (I waited due to a flight of stairs) Please email me if you have any questions. Did you have lap or open? Don't worry about the staples, you won't feel a thing when they come out. I'm so glad that you're doing so well. Maggie

Glad to hear you are home and doing well. I would be glad to see your picts of your wounds if you would like to share. That is something that I am curious about as well and wonder what mine will look like. Take care and have a great recovery!!

Congratulations Michelle! Sounds like you are doing wonderful! I always drank out of a large cup with a straw -- and I've always only taken small sips - I don't know if this will help you or not. I know some surgeons don't want their patients using straws, but it helped me to control the amount. Keep up that walking! And keep us posted! God Bless, Kathy Bilodeau Lap RNY 12/3/03 -85 lbs.
