Ok Ok Im a pain
Hi Melissa,
You are not a pain you are just excited I will try to break down the process for you. The meeting with Dr. Bell is an educational session. You can bring someone with you if you desire. You will have to fill out forms (of course) and it is a good idea to bring a list of your meds with you already written out. You will meet Lynda his nurse and she will weigh you and explain a few things to you. Then you meet with Dr. Bell and the other folks in your group. He will go through the entire procedure in detail and he will answer any and all questions that people have. He doesn't schedule anything after that group session so he will take as long as people want. About two weeks after that meeting you will get another call from his office with your surgery date!! Then you will also get a date for your pre-op tests and your pre-op appt. with Dr. Bell. They schedule those both on the same day. Dr. Bell may require some extra tests like a cardiac clearance but they will let you know about that. You will get letters from Yale and the dates maybe wrong but just go by what Dr. Bell's office says. At the pre-op appointment you will get your very specific instructions about eating, you will get a prescription for pain meds to be filled after surgery and you will get a prescription for your B12 shots. There is no special diet that you have to be on before surgery. Just no eating or drinking after midnight the night before. You are ususally in the hospital for 2 nights (3 days) barring any complications. You won't need to pack much for the hospital but I will go into that at a later date. Hope this helps!!
Linda
