I finally got a date for lap RYN today! It will be on July 29. Seems like such a long way away but now that I finally have the date - it doesn't seem so bad. I will also have my surgery with Dr. Barba instead of Dr. Lorenzo as Dr. Barba has the first available time slot. I am thrilled about that!!! Dr. Lorenzo would be great I'm sure but I have heard so much more about Dr. Barba. Leslie (alias name - changed it because of the problem on Google)

Whoo Hoo!! Congrats Leslie! It was the same with me. I met with Dr. Lorenzo and then scheduled with Dr. Barba, too. I also wasn't upset. The reseach I've done shows a direct correlation between the number of surguries the doctor has performed and a decreased amount of complications that arise. Not to say we're safe, or that Dr. L wouldn't do a good job, but I'm in the medical field and I understand that there are times when experience can be on your side. I meet with Dr. Barba next Wednesday for my pre-op appointment and start my Carnation instant breakfast next Monday. (Yippee, I can hardly wait! ) Do Cosmos count as liquid diet???!! Well, I realize it's for my benefit, and I'll consider it an brief "taste" of what's in store. I'm meeting with Judy Carty for a brief weigh in tomorrow morning. I'd gained weight when I last met with Dr. Lorenzo, so they tell me my surgery could be cancelled if I'm not back down to my "fighting weight." I understand the theory behind it, but if I could snap my fingers and have it drop off, I'd have been snapping my friggin' fingers off years ago! I figured I'd check in with her before my pre op appointment next week to know if I should eat anything at all this week! (I'm willing to just strip down before I get on the scale, if that'll help!) Wish me luck! Dee

Dee I am so glad we're in this together. There does not seem to be too many patients from Dr. Barba who post on this site. I am really happy that Dr. Barba is doing both our surgeries! I know Dr. Lorenzo is a good Dr. but there is not alot of info on him available. It sounds like Dr. Barba is the one who does most of the surgeries. I hope you will be surprised at your weigh in with Judy. From the first time I met her to four weeks later I lost 7 lbs. When I went back about seven weeks later, I was shocked. I had not gained an ounce. I really thought I had gained back the 7 lbs. Now. it will be 10 weeks till surgery. I have to make sure I keep the 7 lbs off. As if we don't have enough to worry about! You would think that once you've had all the testing, lost some initial weight and are just waiting for the big day - they would let it go. I know it's for our own welfare though. Please, keep me posted on how you make out tomorrow! If I recall, you're having lap RYN. Let me know how that Carnation goes!

Hi Carrie I started the initial process by attending an info session last November. I then got started the very next day scheduling all my doctor appointments and tests. The appointments fell right into place and I was completed with them all by February. I then called to schedule an appt. with a surgeon and the soonest one open was with Dr. Lorenzo for 4/20. I met with Dr. Lorenzo and he cleared me for lap RYN. I was told I would hear back in two weeks with a date. Well, I just heard today. I guess the doctors were trying to work out their schedules with vacation and all. I waited almost a month for a date and it really was hard . I understand that there was such a backlog - 40 people to schedule. I just feel such relief now that I have a date atleast. I'm going to call every once in awhile and see if there are any cancellation. My one piece of advise though is be prepared to wait. I'm not very good at waiting so it's been hard. I will continue to keep you posted on any further developments. Let me know how you're making out! Leslie
