I'm scheduled to have lap. RNY on 12-17 at Saint Francis Hospital's Bariatric Center of Excellence.  I'm wondering if anyone out there on the CT forum has had their surgery there - what was your experience like?  Did you have a private room or share a room?  What are the visiting policies?  Thanks.

Hello, I had my surgery there in April 2006. I had to share my room with another patient who did not have the same surgery as myself, but that was ok. We shared a bathroom also. I am not sure about the visiting policies, I believe 12pm - 8 pm, but I would call the hospital and ask. There were other bariatric patients on the floor I was on. I had a pretty good experience, no real complaints.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Best of luck

Sher

I had my lapband surgery there on 3/8/06 - I shared a room with a women who had a lap RNY. I was not impressed at all with anything. Make sure you have someone there for you when you get out of surgery. I told everyone to stay home and regreted it. That being said, St. Francis is an excellent hospital - maybe I just got some nurses that weren't the brightest bulbs on the tree. Just make sure you ask for what you want and need and if you don't get it within a reasonable amount of time, keep asking - don't worry about what other people think of you - do what you have to to get what you need!

Thanks for the info - I think the Bariatric Center is fairly knew - but I'm not positive about that.  I go for my preop education class on Wednesday so I will ask for more information then.  I was hoping that bc they are a center for excellence thye have a dedicated WLS unit that is more in tunee with their patient's needs.

I know that was a goal when I had my surgery - I don't know if they ever accomplished it, hopefully they did and you can benefit from it!!

Hello, I had open RNY at St. Francis in 4/2005.   I did share a room off & on... however I lucked out during my stay & had 1 overnite person.. otherwise I was by myself. Nurses were great... I had a student/intern nurse during my 3rd day & she was awesome... we had a blast as she was partnered up with me for her full shift. The hall way was VERY crowded between patients walking the halls & nurses running around.  I was on the 7th floor.  1 nurse left alot to be desired with her "caring" but other than that I can't complain about the experience. Best wishes on your journey, Mickey
