Saw my doc today......

Well, I saw my doc today for my one year followup. A little late, but we had scheduling conflicts!! I have lost a total of 130 pounds sticking at 160. I am happy with that. The bad news is I found out that I have a hernia and it is incarcerated. That means it has something stuck in it and since lately I have been nauseous he thinks it needs to come out right away. He wants to also do a TT at the same time because my scar keloided and I have so much loose skin. I am pretty bummed today as it's just the whole thought of going under the knife again and losing time from work. I am usually a pretty upbeat person and this just has gotten me a bit down. I go to my support group meeting tonight, so that will be a good pick me up. Thanks for listening Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, Usually your posts have such an upbeat tone to them...just know we're all here for you. Let me ask you this - I understand not wanting to go under the knife again, trust me, so does that mean you wouldn't want the TT? Can you have it at a later date when you feel your more ready, if ever? I was planning on going to the UCONN support group tonight but my DH has class (only tonight, he usually doesn't have class, LOL) so I'll be hanging with Ethan, our son. Everything happens for a reason...

Hi Cheryl, Sorry to hear about the hernia. I don't have any advice, just wanted to let you know you have support. You are always saying helpful things to others and are very active on the board, wish I could help you somehow. I will say a prayer for you. Anne Pre-op

Cheryl.. sorry to hear about the hernia.. but look on the bright side.. you will have to have the surgery for the hernia anyhow, added bonus you get a TT! I'm sure everything will work out fine. Stay upbeat and you'll see the positive side of things and get through it just fine. Congrats on your anniversary as well.. that is awesome!

Cheryl -- I too have a hernia, and my doctor is trying to wait until I've lost more weight and more time has gone by before doing the surgery. I completely understand the lack of desire re going under the knife again. However, you did well the first time, this time you're at a healthier weight which is always good for medical procedures, AND you'll get the tummy tuck! I know that I too will be very anxious when it comes time for that surgery, but I know I'll have people like you to talk me down. The best news is that you've had a great year, you look mahvelous, and you'll feel better without the hernia. Have a good meeting tonight & I'm sure you'll come out feeling more positive. Chin up!! Hey Cheryl, I know you really don't want to have to deal with the whole surgery thing again and use up your time off etc. however..........You certainly don't want to have to have emergency surgery on this hernia and then the possibility of not getting the other stuff done because its an emergency and the doctor can only do the hernia repair. I will come to Burlington and give you a kick in the butt or just hold your hand, which ever you think would work!! Go to your meeting, get inspired and realize its time to move on to the next step. Yep its a biggie but you can do it!!! You know having the tummy tuck done kind of means this worked and you can't go back........ at least that is what I keep telling myself. Call me if you want to talk. Linda

First, let's look at the positives. You are a year out AND you lost 130#!! "By the way Doc, could you get ride of that awful hernia while removing this extra skin?" I ALWAYS look on the brighter side of things(I try to anyway!!) Good luck with everything, I know it will all work out for you. Christine

Hi Cheryl, First of all congratulations on your wonderful weight loss. What a great job you've done, you should be so proud of yourself. I really understand how you feel about having additional surgery since my doctor has told me that I also will need hernia repair and a tt. I'm not looking forward to it at all since I'm still recovering from my gallbladder complications. My doctor insures me that my abdomin which now looks like a roadmap with indentations and holes everywhere will look better than good as new. I have to trust that he will do the right thing. The one good thing about having both done at once is that the insurance companies will pay for both. I will include you in my prayers and also hope that this next step will be as successful as you've been in the past. Mary Lou

Hi Cheryl, I hope you are feeling better today. Everyone sure has come together to wish you their best. I want you to know that I will be praying for you too! You've done a wonderful job - losing 130# is fantastic! Now you'll lose a few more just from skin - I think that's great! You'll also feel better without the hernia - so, although it is always difficult to go through surgery, keep in mind that it is all for good, and you'll make it through it. God Bless, Kathy Bilodeau
