Hi everyone, I have the opportunity to face me intense fear of fish and take SCUBA lessons with my family!! I'm just wondering, is this safe to do as a post-op? I never thought about it until my MIL asked if it would be ok for me, and that got me thinking. I also have a history of blood clots (a 10-hour car trip when your 6-weeks post partum is not a good idea) and I have a Greenfield filter...could that also cause problems? I called DR Aranow who isn't in the office, but I thought I'd check with all of you before signing up. Thanks! -Deb 7 months, down 116 pounds and want to go swimmin!

Debbie, I am pretty sure there are no restrictions on activities especially at 7 months out but I would check with your doctor because of the greenfield filter. That could be the difference. Sounds like a blast!! Linda

Ooh, what fun! I can't think of any reason that surgury would prevent you from scuba diving. The blood clot thing...well, be sure to get an answer before you start. You can also talk to the scuba people and see what they think. Believe me, they dont want to take any chances. You're afraid of fish? Well, good for you for taking this on! I'm not afraid of fish, just sharks...which has kept me from scuba diving. Funny enough, I'll snorkel no problem and have seen sharks or gotten puled out of the water because of sharks more than once, but that didn't seem to stop me from snorkeling. So, maybe it's just an excuse for me not to try something new and mysterious. Congrats on your bravery! Hey- think how much better you'll look in a wetsuit now!!

Yup, petrified of fish. I went snorkeling in Jamaica once and was 'chased' by a Moray eel. After that I decided I'm done with natural bodies of water. But to make matters even stranger, I'm ok as long as I can't tough the bottom! If I have to walk on the bottom of shallow ocean water I'm so scared I'm going to step on something. I can tred water for hours (naturally bouyant, so they say) and that doesn't freak me out too bad. Wetsuit here I come! thanks for your post!
