has anyone gone from lap band to bypass?

My lap band has not worked well for me and it is suggested that I go for the gastric bypass. Does anyone have this experience and if so, please share. Thank you

Sorry that the lap band hasn't worked well for you. What has been your problem with it? I can't give info about what you are asking but you might check the main message board and ask there you would have a broader audience. Good luck, gastic bypass might be for you or not. Look into it throughly before you decide. Sher

Hi Jewel--- My husband had Lap-Band on May 15th....Many, many fills later, tests and all, the fills still weren't doing the job.  He had given up hope.  After talking with his surgeon we finally agreed to do the Gastric Bypass.  My husband knew what to expect as I had it done in April 06'.  Due to severe medical issues that he has, it was a decision we did not want to have to make, but because of the failure of the Lap-band, he had no choice, stay fat & die young, or have the bypass, live healthy and die old.  He was converted to bypass on Oct 30, and has since lost 37 lbs and feels great. If you are going to go for the gastric bypass, try another surgeon, Dr. Bell is excellent very excellent

Michele, Thank you for your response. Your response however indicated to me that there was an underlining reason for it. Then I read your post. I am sooo very sorry for your loss. Words cannot say how that impacted me. I most certainly am going to a different surgeon, for my own personal reasons. Best of luck for your continued weight loss.  Jewel
