Frustrated . . . .

I don't know if anyone else had this problem post-op, but I couldn't find it on the message boards.  I had my surgery this past Monday (the 19th) and came home on Wednesday.  I stepped on the scale and I actually weigh more now than I did before the surgery.  People are telling me it's because of all of the IV fluids they were pumping in to me, but shouldn't that be out of my system now?  I would just like to hear from others what they experienced because this is really frustrating and discouraging. Thanks!

I weighed myself yesterday (the day after getting out of the hospital) and I had gained 2 lbs and I reweighed myself and had lost them plus another 1.5 lbs. I was only in the hospital one day and still saw some gain so I think that it's normal. Good luck!

Not to worry. More common than one would think. I GAINED 15 lbs in the hospital. Yes.. you read that right FIFTEEN. All I could do was laugh... Like it was some sort of cosmic joke. Part of that was the I.V. It eventually went along with 100 other lbs. Your body will catch up. Promise. Oh.. the early days... what a roller coaster ride it can be. But worth every bump. T.

Thank you both very much for your stories.  I actually was up about 14 pounds leaving the hospital.  I've dropped a couple of that, so I'm hoping it keeps going.  It was just a big shock to see the scale go up after coming home.  Thanks again!!!!!

As I said, it will drop. Be patient, it may take time. For me it took a couple of weeks to level out. T.

I just wanted to share that the pounds are coming off now.  So it must've been from all of the IV fluids they had pumped into me at the hospital.  I am now down 11 pounds since I came home.  I'm feeling good and waiting for the pounds to keep coming off!

Hi Danielle! I'm new to this post and am interested in speaking with people about the Lap band procedure.  I'm not sure if this is what you had done or not.  If you feel comfortable sharing your experiences with me, I'd appreciate it.  Just send me a message when you can.  Good luck to you and congratulations on your surgery!  I hope to have it early next year.   jami
