Dr. Barba & St. Francis Hospital in Hartford???
Does anyone have any feedback with regard to Dr. Barba. I have made all of my appointments, funny enough, my 1st nutrionist appt is after all the others have been made! I am hoping someone will be able to give me some commentary, good or bad, on this particular doctor.
I am so glad to have found this place! It makes everything so much easier.
Thanks to all the at AMOS!!!
I am glad to speak with someone who is going through St. Francis Hospital. I went to my first information session in March and have completed my Psychiatric and Pulmonary consults. I have an appt. with the nutritionist on June 2nd and July 9th. Her name is Melissa. I was able to talk to Dr. Barba at the information session in March and found him to be cordial and understanding. I want the Lap Band and have been to two Lap Band Support Groups at St. Francis. My sister was Lap Banded on Tuesday and released on Wednesday. She is at home doing well. The doctor that performed the Lap Band was Dr. Richard Newman. I suggest you at least go to the Support Groups. I don't know what surgery you are getting, but the St. Francis Support Groups are informative and you are able to ask questions and see those who have been through it. The Lap Band Session I went to on Tuesday had a guest. Dr. Stephen Belinke, a plastic surgeon was the speaker and Judy, Melissa and RN. Carolyn was present.
Antoinette,
Thanks so much for responding to my post. I completed the radiological consult today and Tuesday I have my psychiatric consult.
I am so glad to hear that your sister is doing well! And my thoughts are with you at every step of this journey. You and your sister both will be in my thoughts.
Could I trouble you to tell me where exactly the Lap Band Support Group meets and what time, that is the surgery I am seeking as well?
Hope to hear from you soon, and even maybe get to say Hi! at the meeting.

Hi
I am actually scheduled to have gastric bypass with Dr. Barba on May 12th. I can tell you he is well worth the wait. I attended his info session in September of last year, and had my consult with him just las week. They called me on Monday with my surgery date.
All of my consults were done beofre my first nutritionist appointment too, it's just how that all worked out. When I finally got to see Dr. Barba, I was very impressed. He is kind and very experienced in the surgery. He expalined all of the possible risks associated with the surgery and was informative about the health problems I have and which method would be better for me, which inmy case was laporoscopic. He seemed very caring and even pushed for me to get an earlier surgery date than what he was scheduling for (which is July).
All of Dr. Barba's staff has been so kind and helpful. He has a support group meeting next Thursday night, you should think about going. Best of luck in the process, it is a long one, but well worth it in the end Take care.

Hello Everyone, Well I also attended an informational session on April 8th. I have my first evals scheduled for next week. Pulmonary, Cardiac and Psych. I can't wait till my appointment with Judy (Nutritionist) I'm afraid of losing weight right now, and not being able to have the surgery (afraid they might say I can do on my own) but at the same time I want to lose some to be able to possibly have the laproscopic instead of open surgery. I can and have lost weight on my own...problem is it always comes back plus! If anyone would like to be a support buddy please email me! I would love to chat and support each other on our journey!
