I know 3 people that have had their tummy tucks/arm flaps paid for by their insurance. We need to get these plastic surgeons in CT up to date with CA doctors. I have given Dr. Barba (Hartford) the name of the plastic surgeon in San Leandro, CA who has done 3 of my friends tummy tucks JUST BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT THEY HAVE LOST, they didn't have to act like they had hernias or pray for them. lolol The plastic surgery was just a part of the entire procedure. These doctors could be making a lot of money too!

An interseting thought! I don't think it has as much to do with getting the the Dr's on board as it does with getting the INSURANCE companies on board! Insurance does not want to pay unless it's medically necessary. Not everyone with redundant skin had a medical necessity for it to be removed. I have friends here in ct who have had their arms, breasts and tummys covered out of medical necessity. However, I know far more who can't get it covered. You know...as much as I'd like to say I need reconstructive surgery and it's medically necessary... mine really isn't it's just cosmetic at this point. (hate looking at this yuckie skin and flabby wrinkled stuff!!)

The insurance companies are very leery of paying for plastic surgery unless it's really necessary. I guess I can see their point -- if it's not medically necessary they're paying for us to nip & tuck where we lost the weight -- yet more money to pay out to folks who've had very expensive surgery. I'm hoping to exercise most of my flabbiness away, although I don't know if it's possible for my jiggling, ugly legs to make it back to relative normalcy. And I can tell you I did NOT pray for my hernia, but I ended up with one. It's painful!! I know that this will help me get the tummy tuck, but frankly I'd prefer to be doing ab work so I wouldn't need it, but due to complications I'm not allowed to do much ab work. I think I'm going to be taking a second job so I can get a leg lift and breast lift!

Hi again, none of my friends had any medical reason other than it being unsightly.

These were all done by one surgeon in CA? See any pattern? It is not the Drs, but the insurance companies that regulate who gets what by deeming it medically necessary. Maybe the Dr in CA needs to share what works so well. Can also be covered in the insurnace plan which they have. Too many variables Peter
