I am going to be doing the protein sparing diet required by Dr. Valin. Can anyone that has done it tell me what you are allowed to eat? I just wanted a heads up beforehand. Thanks so much, Maggie

Maggie - The protein sparing diet required by both Dr Valin and Dr Reinhold consists of meat and broth. Are you excited?? Believe me, make it through that and the rest is a piece of cake! (oops, didn't mean to mention the 'c' word ). You can have 9 ounces of meat (beef, chicken, etc..) and 3 cups of broth each day, plus liquids. Repeat for 5 days. You'll do great! And you'll be one step closer to your surgery date! Good Luck!! Hugs, Carla

Thanks so much for the response. I wanted a heads up as to how hard it was going to be. Wow, I guess if you can get through that, the rest is easy. Thanks, Maggie

Maggie: I did not have to do the protein test but from what I hear you can have 3oz of protein, chicken broth and water until your body goes into ketosis. Best wishes, Chryssie

Hi Maggie, Didn't you go through the session with Diana Rosa where she explained what you would have to eat? Or is that yet to come? I would hope they'd tell you how to do it!! You are required to have 3 cups of broth *yuck* to get in sodium. You're only allowed 9 oz of protein in the form of MEAT. No eggs, no cheese, no dairy of any kind. Absolutely NOTHING but MEAT. If it didn't walk or swim, you can't eat it. It's a really small amount to do too.. especially if you don't like meat. Some nights I went to bed rather than eating. Good thing is.. you can lose a little weight and it definitely makes you happy when you're in ketosis and your stick turns purple. Also, you're required to take some potassium pills, which they give you a prescription for. Trust me, if you don't take these you can end up with some wicked charlie horses!! (muscle spasms) luckily, it's only 5 full days that's required. Good luck!!

Hi Maggie, I did the protein sparing diet and I will tell you...it was not nearly as bad as I feared it would be...HONESTLY!!...And I'm not a huge meat fan. But, what I did was add chicken to my broth for lunch and dinner and had chicken soup...which is one of my favorites. I added salt and pepper to it and it was great. I will admit though...from day 3 thru 5 I had 4 cups of broth...2 for each meal rather than 3 cups total. I was in ketosis as of day 3 and lost 9 pounds. For breakfast I usually had deli turkey or chicken breast. One night I baked a pork chop and had that for dinner. Was yummie. Good luck. You can and will do it!! Linda
