Has any boddy tried this test? I am curious to know if it works. I read about it on some ones post on the main lap band board.  I am thinking of trying it.  http://www.5daypouchtest.com/plan/theplan.html

Here is the problem with the "5 day pouch test"- it starts with a kernel of truth (that the best way to get away from grazing and carb intake is to follow a regimented plan), but the devil is in its details. First, it takes your body of couple of days to really process through the carbs you've been having-- so having cream soups and sugar free pudding (which are not necessarily low in carbs) won't necessarily help you if your goal is to stabliize blood sugar levels (so you'll have fewer cravings).  Secondly, your pouch is not really going to tighten up because you've had one day of allegedly soft protein followed by a day of firm protein. And, even if it did, it would presuppose that for those of us who have experienced a gain did so because we didn't feel enough restriction from our pouches.  However, the majority of those of us who have gained (and I count myself in that category) do so despite feeling full sometimes-- gaining weight is the result of a long process of often ignoring our bodies' signals.

Now admittedly, I am writing this as much to me because I have been in a couple of weeks of closely watching everything I'm eating eliminating all my little carb sneaks (the couple of crackers with cheese or peanut butter when I am making dinner, the handful of popcorn when I am racing out to run some errands to tide me over, the increasing size of the pizza crust I allow myself after just eating the toppings . . . you know the progression).  I certainly wish that a 5-day plan would re-focus my attention and make me more in tune with my pouch-- but, unfortunately, I've found that it's a life-time plan that's needed and not something that can be achieved in 5-days.

Respecting what Steve said completely- I have a slightly different opinion.  I enjoyed doing it- but more for the purpose of testing my resolve and experiencing the phases again.  It's a great psychological expereince, I think.  I actually found it quite difficult. Also, I did find that my carb cravings decreased a bit- but I stuck to low carb options (no cream soups, no pudding and such) when I was making my liquid or soft food choices.   I think wether or not this 'test' has any validity for you has more to do with WHY you're trying it. Email me if you want to chat about it.

Hiya!  Kaye Bailey began this phenomenon as her own personal way to get herself back on trackand shared it with the world as a suggestion or base to help themselves to regain control. It is not for everyone and many need to make tweaks to it to make it right for them. If you want to read personal accounts of peoples experiences with the 5DPT checkout www.livingafterwls.com go to their neighborhood forums and take a peek!
