I am just learning about the surgery and i had a question about extra skin... does EVERYONE have to get plastic surgury or does it ever work itself out on its own with exercise??? Even if my insurance covered the surgery i am afraid of having a lot of excess skin and no money for other surgeries

Welcome Elizabeth, I think everyone is different as far as extra skin goes. You might want to ask your surgeon what he thinks when you have your appointment. Good Luck on your Journey. Darlene

Elizabeth -- I haven't gotten to the point where that's an issue, but I don't believe you HAVE to have plastic surgery. A lot of factors are involved, like the amount of weight you need to lose, age & genetic skin makeup (some people have skin that snaps back easily, some don't), etc. Exercise definitely helps!! And with the plastic surgery, sometimes the insurance companies will pay for the plastic surgery if the extra skin becomes an issue. My doctor tells me I already have a hernia building in my abdomen from having to have an open operation & being laid up for an extended period. That means an operation in my future to remove the hernia; the upside to that is I get the tummy tuck along with the hernia repair! (Hoping the hernia will hold out long enough for me to lose another 60 lbs.) It's a very valid question, and something you should discuss with your doctor along with all of your other concerns. Good luck! Kathy F.
