Hi everyone! Well I think I've been doing pretty good so far and am currently on Stage 4 (puree's - oh yumm....). However, EVERYTHING gives me heartburn - even water! Anyone else experience this?? Should I be concerned enough to call my doctors office? Or just keep popping the Tums??? Hugs, Carla

Sorry, wish I could help you. I fortunately have never had heartburn or much of any gastric distress. But be careful with the Tums. Too much calcium is not a good thing and if you're taking more than a couple a day for any length of time you might end up with kidney stones. If you are let your Doc know and see what he suggests. I don't think it's an emergency- BUT, I'd give the surgeon a call and let him know. You shouldn't have to suffer. Funny thing is, I had heard this surgery usually gets RID of heartburn. Sorry that wasn't so for you. Lisa C P.S. hey- congrats on the purees! Progress is progress...

Carla. Do you take Prevacid or something like it? I do and it helped a lot..... I rarely get heartburn anymore. Gas I get, heartburn not much. lol Hang in there! Cheryl

Thanks everyone for your replies. Cheryl - I was on Prilosec for a couple of years pre-op but stopped taking it just before surgery. I will probably call the office tomorrow and see if I should start back on something like that at least for the short term. Thanks again everyone!!!! Hugs, Carla

Carla, Call your surgeon. There is a small chance that acid in your pouch can cause an ulcer or gastric bleed and it is not fun. For me, I had no heartburn but did have a bleed and it took me longer to recover from the bleed than from surgery. Dave
