Ok, it's me again. I'm doing my pre-op diet. I went to a wedding on Saturday and ate more than the 1000 calories, I think. I feel so bad, I keep thinking that they are going to open me up and say OH she didn't follow the diet so we can't do her surgery. For anyone who's out there that had to do this, does it make a difference?

I know that some doctors have special diets to follow & like you to lose weight before surgery, but honestly my dr. said it really didn't make a difference, so I doubt that eating a fairly modest amount of calories for a special event is going to make a bit of difference. Everything is absolutely nerve-racking before you have the surgery. It's great to have this board to ask questions on, so keep 'em coming until they wheel you in!! Have a great day! Kathy F.

Hi, I am doing the pre-op diet too. I am supposed to lose 10 pounds for surgery. My dietitian gave me a diet to follow 3 weeks ago, but did not give me calorie restrictions. I have been following the diet pretty closely, and I think I have lost the 10 pounds (I find out tomorrow), but I wanted to say that I have eaten ice cream each Friday since I started. My eating is so improved over what it was, that a little bit of indulgence won't hurt. I just go right back to weighing and measuring everything else I put in my mouth. I know after surgery I won't be eating the ice cream, or anything else like it. My point is, don't beat yourself up over one instance. Just go right back on the diet plan, and you'll be fine. We are human, right? Good luck. Anne

Hi Eternity, I has Gastric Bypass nearly two years ago, my Dr. also didn't ask me to follow a pre-op diet. In fact, I remember eating a last fun meal or two before this life changing experience. What he did want me to do was to start exercising...slowly obviously as I was 352 lbs. at the time. So I started walking. Now nearly two years later I am down to approx 137 lbs. and a size 4/5. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery and the new life that is ahead of you!!!!!!
