Am I Eating too much?
I'm 2 months post op and was wondering what everyone else is eating per meal at this point. Other people I'm talking to who had their surgeries close to the same time as me are saying that they sometimes have to force themselves to eat because they never feel hungry and are only eating spoonfuls. This is a sample of what I can eat in a day:
Breakfast: 1 cup cornflakes with 1/2 cup 1% milk OR 1 scrambled egg with cheese, 1/2 ounce of ham and 1/2 slice of light wheat bread.
Mid-morning: 16 oz. coffee with sweet & low and low-fat creamer (2 Tbl.)
Also 16 oz. of water.
Lunch: 1/2 a tuna sandwich (wheat bread)
Mid-afternoon: 16 oz. water
Supper: 2 oz. chicken, 1/4 cup stringbeans & 1/4 cup mash potatoes.
Night time snack: Either 2 cups light popcorn or 5 crackers and 1 once of cheddar cheese and then about and hour and a half later another 16 oz. cup of water.
Can anyone else eat this much? I wish I could feel like others when they say they don't feel hungry at all because it would help. I've metioned to Dr. Aranow when I went to see him on 3/5 that I never get that full feeling. I do now more than when I was on liquids but a few hours later I feel hungry again. I try and take care of that by drinking water but it doesn't always help. Any advise or comments would be greatly appreciated. I have an appointment with Amy on 5/12 but I need some answers now.
It sounds like you're doing fine. I'm able to eat a fair amount myself (drat!), but you're really not taking in many calories. When you've had this surgery you worry about everything because it's now such a big part of your life, but know that you're doing great.
Keep up the good work & keep asking questions when you need to!

Hi Lucy,
I don't think you are eating too much but it may be what you are chosing to eat that is making you hungry. I think that I eat alot and have from early on but I have made the choice not to eat bread, potatoes, pasta or rice. I ate some mashed potatos in the beginning but haven't had any in quite a while. I try to get mostly protein in with just some carbs. I find that using fitday.com helps me keep everything in perspective. That way you know what your protein intake is and can keep track of your carbs. I still wind up with an average of 49grams of carbs a day but they are essentially good carbs....... or at least that is what I tell myself. I am a bit further along than you so I probably eat more than you at this point (under 1000 cal a day) but just try watching what it is you eat more than how much. Good luck and keep up the good work!!!
