You mean Ben & Jerry's isn't healthy?? I've gotten some great advice from all of the veterans here, and I think tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life. (Is that corny or what?) Anyway, I was starting to feel like I needed a 12 step program for food, but I think I'm at least back on track. Thank you so much!!

Teresa, I wanted to reply to you about the feeling you're having about not knowing when/if you're ever going to eat certain foods again. I'd like to re-assure you, as a 16 month post op person, that there IS good food after RNY! It will not be very long before you can eat tasty foods. It's just a matter of the quantity you will be able to eat being dramatically different, and you being satisfied with a very small amount. At 16 months post op, there are only 3 things that I have trouble with and CAN'T eat. One is ham. Why? I have no idea. The other is regualr Ice Cream (not the end of the world, because I can eat a small quantity of NSA Ice Cream) The last is Chinese food. This is not a big deal to me since even when I did try it post-op, it tasted greasy and yucky, so I dont miss it. I CAN eat Thai food, so that makes up for it. Now, being ABLE to eas something and CHOOSING NOT TO is a challenge that everyone will face at some point. Your first few months will help you with your behavior modification and your 'withdrawl' from food being the center of your life. If you follow the program closely and really change your habits, you will be back to 'normal' (and by normal I mean, eating like a healthy thin person) in no time. Try not to think of the temporary loss, think of ALL THE THINGS YOU GAIN! (like, health, for one!) Good luck to you. It's tough, I know. BUt, you'll get through it. Take care, Lisa C

How'd you get to be so smart, Lisa? That's some great advice. And I don't like ham anyway, I think that most of this has been "all in my head", so to speak. And I think I'm over the hump. So, just keep thinking happy thoughts for me, and I'll get over these lbs soon, hopefully. Thanks again!

Hi Teresa, I am doing the 10 pound weight loss thing too. I had to laugh when you talked about becoming obsessed because you will never eat them again. I developed the same thing once I sent in my application for surgery in January, and went crazy for 2 months eating everything I wanted, including a couple pints of Ben and Jerry's a week! Fast food, Chinese food, Friendly's, you name it. I have hit them all this year. I gained 15 pounds! I got so sick of overeating, I couldn't wait til I could start the 10 pound weight loss, but I felt I needed to wait until I saw them in case I started beforehand and then plateaued... I went to the dietitian on March 16th and got my official weight, and the order to start losing 10 pounds. The first few days were really tough, and I found myself going off alot. Now I am following her weight loss diet more easily. I just had a serious talk with myself, and said if I don't lose this 10 pounds, I can't have surgery, and I want surgery way more than I want to keep eating, so I buckled down, and now I have lost 5 pounds! I go back to see her on April 6th, and I hope I can lose the other 5 pounds by then. You can do it too!!! Anne Pre-op 313/308/??
