i've had virtually no loss (2 lbs) in weeks 2 or most of 3, 15.4 in first week! i had my period during week 2 so i expected to make up for it in week 3. i was bad on fluids, but am trying to be better. i know i should be walking more too, but you would think on these restricted diets i'd loose something more than this. i'm scared, am i a failure with this surgery this early on? i'm able to eat more than an ounce if soft food, but i'm not really eating all that much. i'm afraid to call dr cuz nutritionist yelled at me for having an egg a day earlier than drs. recommended diet.

Hi Casey, I went through the same thing as you are right now. I was told by both my Dr and other post-op's that your body just finished going through major surgery and it takes time to recover. Your body may be storing any nutrients it's receiving, thinking it's starving, similar to a starvation or liquid diet. Dont worry, you're not a failure! It just takes time for everything to catch up and work together. One way that I discovered that helps kick me out of a plateau or slow losing point is increase my protein. I do well with red meat so I'll get the best, most tender juicy steak I can and enjoy. Remember, everyone is different and you too will figure out what works for you!

Not to worry -- everyone's body adjusts to this differently. For me, too, when I'm PMS-ing & during my period I don't tend to lose weight because I hold a lot of fluid. You'll get there, don't worry. Best wishes, Kathy F.

Casey, I know exactly how you feel but relax you are not a failure. I seem to go for 3 weeks without losing anything and then I will lose 6-9 pounds in a few days. Its weird but thats the way it seems to happen for me. Just make sure you are taking your vitamins, calicum and getting in your water and protein. Exercise makes a big difference but hasn't seemed to regulate my weight loss. It will happen, just let your body catch up and figure out what is happening to it. You will be smiling real soon. Linda

Hi Everyone, This is my first time responding to a posting but i have been reading these religiously since I before surgery. Casey I completely understand you're feelings. I have lost 55 pounds since I had surgery in January but the majority of that was in the first month. My first thought was...my god i'm failing at this too!! After that I got my period and also realized that I have been retaining some water. With the help of supportive family and a great therapist I realized I had to stop weighing myself and that there are so many factors that affect the scale reading but don't necessarily mean you're not losing weight. I've been checking my ketones and even when I'm not showing progress on the scale I am burning fat...more proof tha****er retension and other things are keeping the numbers from going down. Keep you're chin up as I have and really the best thing you can do is try not to weigh yourself but once a week. It's so easy to become obsessed with the scales!!! (especially when it's been years since you've been on one!). Good luck and thank you guys for months of positive support and words of wisdom. Stephanie
