I read where people talk about the dark days but that they are seeing the end of the tunnel. Can someone tell me when they talk like that are they meaning the feelings or cravings that they still will get? Or is it a physical problem that they are talking about. I'm sure not everyone has the same meaning behind it but if someone could clue me in I'd appreciate it. I'm less than 2 weeks til surgery! Boy oh boy are there alot of emotions going on in here! Excited, scared, thrilled too. Cleaned out the closet yesterday got things packed up and ready to roll once I'm home from surgery. Hard to part with some of those old clothes! they've been inthere for along time. then i came across a few "thinner" outfits and was thrilled to be able to think that maybe I will be able to wear them again! AND could someone tell me if someday I might be able to wear those heels that I've had packed in their shoe boxes??? oooo I'm gonna love this new part of my life!

Hi Pamela, As far as the dark days and demons, they're different for everyone (as this entire process is) and for me they ran the gamut, emotional (mourning the loss of my longest friend, FOOD), physical (lack of energy, unable to eat and not losing weight at first) and mental (what the heck did I do to myself??). But every day I got a little stronger, was able to tolerate everything a bit more, and once the pounds started dropping and the energy level increased there was no stopping me! And as far as your heels...WEAR THEM! I went from wearign flats all the time to 3 inch heels! I went from being 5'10" every day to over six feet because of the heels! I also lost a complete shoe size and that was completely unexpected! Hang in there, enjoy these last few weeks. Make sure you have plenty of before pics taken AND measure yourself...I sure wish I did!

The "dark days" are indeed different for everyone, but I think the one thing everyone has in common is missing the food -- your body really does have to adjust physically and emotionally, and the recovery stage. I had complications & was home for 2 months (!!). The dark days for me were certainly inclusive of the 2nd surgery I had to have, but once I was finally at home I'd see commercials for food on TV and just want to cry -- I would have to avert my glance so I wouldn't see one more pizza commercial, etc. You feel deprived & scared. BUT, it does get better. I can't say I no longer have any cravings, but it doesn't affect me like it did in the beginning. I no longer have any regrets about the surgery, and I'm enjoying life again. On the high heel front, keep those shoes girl!!! I had sprained my ankle(s) 3 times from falling in the year before surgery, and putting on even a small heel made my ankles hurt like crazy. Now I can wear my 3" heels without a problem (other than my natural klutziness!). I bought a pair of really pointed ankle boots with a 3" heel & I wear them a few times a week with no problem. I'm barely 5'2" so it helps! Good luck to you in your surgery. Don't worry about the "dark days" --they'll be gone & you'll be up & running in no time.
