Hi all. I am looking for advice on picking a high protien supplement as opposed to a regular protein supplement like boost, ensure etc. This has been recommended by the doc's office.Right now my fave protein supp is the choc carnation with extra dry nonfat milk added. Thanks Carol

Hi Carol, Personally I use either the Propelet Gold powders from Bariatriceating.com or the Atkins Advantage Cafe au Lait flavor. They both have about 20 grams of protein per drink. I mix the powders with water not milk. I find that the 20 grams if enough to supplement what ever food I am eating to reach my protein goals. I stopped the ensure and boost immediately after the 2 weeks of liquids. I figured there was too much sugar in them for my tastes. I have read that more than 35 grams of protein at one time is a waste, in other words our bodies can only absorb so much at a time. I started having the drinks once a day and continued that for about a month and then found I was getting enough protein in most days without it. I have just started drinking them again but more because I need a snack after working out in the mornings (I have breakfast before I go) to tide me over until lunch. I have chosen to use the cafe au lait as a snack (kind of makes me think I am having my morning coffee...) Hope this helps. I would suggest ordering some samples of different protein powders before ordering anything in quantities. I have found that Susan Maria's products on bariatriceating.com are great and she always includes a coupe of extra samples. That's my opinion
