I drank these drinks prior to my surgery.  I believe I got vanilla and chocolate both and found both to be easy to drink, not bad. I recovered well from my surgery, without any complications and healed well without developing any infections. If it was from those drinks I can't say. I also started taking a multivitamin several weeks prior to my surgery and tried to follow the rules for a postop, protien first, not drinking with meals and waiting 1 hour after before drinking. I also started using a small plate and utensils to remind myself to take small bites and chew, chew, chew my food because that would be what I needed to get used to doing as a post op wls patient. I also stop all soda and caffiene and increased my zero calorie fluids. I found those drinks also helped diminish hunger pangs. Wishing you all the best. Any other questions, feel free to ask. Sher

I could NOT choke that stuff down - to me it tasted like dead fish in a box - I got the chocolate flavor and I have never tasted anything so ghastly - it's funny how everyone has different taste buds - others have no problem! I ended up drinking instant breakfast or boost for my liquid diet - I healed fine with no problems (as thousands of others do without drinking that expensive, nasty stuff). The company does say they've done research and have proven their drink aides in healing and helps prevent infection - but any study has it's faults - especially since no two people are exactly the same and have the same capacity for healing in any given situation - that alone makes the study extremely difficult as far as I'm concerned............

Your liver will shrink if you go on a liquid diet and stay away from fatty stuff..........

I can tell you the stuff will not HURT you in any way - I'm just not sure how much it really helps and I guess I'll never know!

Good luck with your decision!

I did buy the IMPACT Advance Recovery drink. I had my surgery in September.  I dont' think it was the greatest thing on the planet, but it wasn't that bad to me.  I was able to drink them without any problem and they helped to take the edge off the hunger I would feel, during the week leading to my surgery.

Now, I've always been a slow healer and almost always have some type of complication arise from my surgeries.  This time, though, everything went like clockwork.   According to the nurses I was in recovery sooner than they expected me and in my room in no time at all... I'm healing pretty good. No complications whatsoever. I did come home with a drain, which was removed 3 days later.  I feel good and was very happy that everything went smoothly and perfectly in the OR. I had laparscopic bypass.

Oh and I bought a mix of flavors, half chocolate and half vanilla from Dr. Barba's office.
