Isopure Protein Drink
RNY on 06/26/13
My nutritionist recommended Isopure Protein Zero Carb for Stage 1. She recommended I dilute it, but I was wondering if anyone has tried this product and could provide me with any feedback, it's not that cheap and I don't want to invest in something I'm not going to use because it gross.
If you do like it, what flavors do you like best? I was thinking of going to the store and picking a few up if I get a good response from you guys, but I am really interested in your feedback... is it pasty...how's the consistency...
Thanks for your input, I don't know how I could make it through this learned process without my friends here at OH!
I used RTD Isopure (from the bottles) while in the hospital and the first week or so when on clear liquids. I did dilute it 50/50 with water. I then poured about 6 medicine (1 oz?) cups I got from the nurses to keep a supply ready to drink every 10 mins. While it was not my fav, it was very doable. I chose the berry mix (whatever that flavor is). But taste is so individual.
I then moved to a powder when I was at that approp stage to drink those.
I do believe the protein ffrom the get-go was helpful for my recovery and also getting me in the swing of getting all my protein in.
Early on... Hydration is prime. This way I got my hydration AND my protein.
Who is your nutritionist?
Good luck.

First of all....can you please change your font color? It's SO light, that it is VERY hard to read!
My husband and I had RNY sugery and we both really the chocolate Isopure, a lot. It's not zero carb, it's called low carb, I think, because the chocolate give it like 4gms or something like that.
If you have a Vitamin Shoppe, get it there, you'll save a lot of money there instead of at GNC.
This is the powder...it calls for two scoops, but don't do two, our bodies can't absord more than 30 gm of protein at one time, and two scoops is like 40 gms. Just wasting the powder.
As far as the already mixed liquid Kook Aid type bottles that are about 4 bucks each...they are also good. Our favorite is the grape. You can also cut these down w/ water if they'r too sweet. Also, one bottle is considered two servings.
My daughter (9) knows she needs more protein and likes to get these bottles and drink them from time to time. She tries a different one each time. She does like the bright blue one (probably berry of some sort.)
Oh...don't be surprised if your bowels turn green or a weird color. It's the die in them and if that's all you're drinking, they'll be surely a different color!
Good Luck,
Paula

Hi Paula,
First off, sorry for blinding you! I wear glasses myself and know how that is!
Thanks for your help and tips about where to buy my drinks, because I was thinking about going on Wednesday to GNC, so I will go to the Vitamin shop instead.
I truly don't know how I would make it through this process without my friends at OH!
Thanks again!
Diana
Hi Diana,
One other thing...after you've been on a lot of protein, your tongue wil get a coating on it. (I know, gross)....I suggest you buy a tongue scraper before your surgery and use it! It helps a lot. Especially with that funky taste the protein leaves behind!

I would recommend buying only 1 bottle to try. I personally hated the stuff. I didn't really care for the taste but what really got me was that it felt like it left an after-film in my mouth and throat..... I bought 4 bottles in different flavors and ended up throwing them out. I do admit that I never tried diluting it with water, it never occurred to me to try that.
