I am 3 weeks post op today and need some reassurance that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing. I am eating 2 oz. of protein(tuna or an egg) 3 times a day and also drinking 2 protein shakes to add up to the 60 grams required daily. However, I got on the scale this morning and I havent lost any weight in a week. Is this normal?? I am only eating about 400 calories a day and I am walking about 1 mile but I am having a hard time drinking the required liquids in between. I know that the liquids are important, but no loss in a week- I.m worried. I even called the dietician and she said I was doing fine-but did anyone else go through this??

Okay Elaine, I will repeat what I was told when I had my first plateau. Relax. I know that it is difficult but I am 3 1/2 months out and have already had 3 different 3 week periods where I lost nothing and then I lose 5-9 pounds in one week. Its very weird. I just found out today, however, that untreated sleep apnea causes your metabolism to slow. That might be part of my problem. I have been battling with my cpap since before surgery and while its better, it still is there. Have a great ride Linda

Not to worry! I had a 2-3 week period where I didn't lose an ounce when I was about a month or so out of surgery -- drove me nuts!! But your body will kick back into the weight loss soon. Don't despair.

Hi Elaine, I am now 4 1/2 weeks post op and had the exact same thing happen to me right when I went from all liquids to semi-solids. For a little over a week, I lost nothing, then all of a sudden I started losing again. It was strange to me, but I was told to expect it by my Dr. at my first follow-up visit. Appears that at the time of the surgery, your metabolism goes into a form of hibernation. When you go onto solids, it has to readjust and that takes a week or so. Hope this helps and congratulations!! Lyn
