Activity post-op
I am really just starting on taking action toward an rny. I will be meeting with my PCP and Surgeon shortly. If I get approved, it will be about two months til my surgery.
I am wondering if anyone can give me an idea about the post-op activity situation. I will need to go back to work. I work in a hospital ER as a technician - doing EKG's, blood draws, wound care, etc. and will need to get back full time as soon as is possible. (I need some relatively quick feedback about this to aid in my decision making, so thus the flag.)
I would appreciate any thoughts you experienced folks may have......
Thank you!
Hi Margaret,
It would help to know whether or not you are having open or lap surgery. It makes a huge difference in your recovery time. I had lap surgery and I had no pain, haven't gotten sick and have more energy than I know what to do with. I probably could have gone back to work at two weeks but I chose to take 4 weeks. There is a certain amount of adjustments you need to go through that don't necessarily involve pain or weakness. You need to find a drinking routine, an eating routine and getting your exercise going. Also don't go by my recovery because I consider myself very very lucky. I had such an easy time I often wonder if my surgeon did anything....... Hope this helped some.

Hi Margaret
I had open RNY on Dec. 1st. I'm a teacher and my time off worked out great due to the holidays so I had more than I needed. I easily could have gone back to work in 2 weeks, but everyone is different. I felt that I had a very quick recovery and I had no problems at all tolerating different foods. Best of luck in your decision.
