Hi Precious, Best wishes on your upcoming surgery.  I have Dr. B too as my WLS Dr. & think he is just terrific. There is a new drinkable protein on the market that come in 3oz "shots" not sure what they're called but I believe have over 20 grams of protein per container.  I've seen them at GNC and the Vitamin Store.. may want to check them out. Also Whey protein is good... doesn't have a nasty aftertaste and if you get a plain vanilla you can get pretty creative with adding different flavorings to make smoothies.  (My favorite was orange flavoring, lemon, and a few tablespoons of sugar free chocolate mix.) You may want to experiment now to find something you find agreeable in taste.  I got sick of the Whey protein drinks pretty quickly and found an alternative with Slim fast that had a low sugar/carb variety made with milk protein. Hope this helps, Mickey

Thank you Mickey for your reply , I'll try the Whey protein and mix it up.  I'm a picky drinker so if it taste bad it won't make it down question about it is it powder mix or liquid ??? Precious

Precious, I would suggest that you don't invest in a huge amount of product at this time. After surgery some of us have drastic changes in what tastes good to us or not. I found that I could not swallow or smell the protien drinks I had. What I did was get unflavored whey protien powder or unflavored soy. Then I can mix it in what ever I like. LIke yogurt, sf pudding, cystal lite, ff milk,  ect. You can also add it to hot beverages like sf hot cocoa, just mix a scoop of protien powder into about 2 oz cool water and then add that to your hot cocoa. I find that prevents the protien from clumping. Al the best for your upcoming surgery. Sher

Hi Sher, Thank you for the recipe of the hot cocoa. I'm a big drinker of that I'll try it ,I have made up my mind I think I'll buy unflavor Whey protein or vanilla since I'm a picky drinker and just make my own drink's with fruit ,pudding and so on. Thank you so much .. Precious

As you've probably heard before, many people's tastes change post op, so, it's futile to try out shakes prior to surgery. I ordered a lot of trial size shakes online prior to surgery (to have them ready) and tried a different one each time.  If I didn't like it, I made another. www.bariatricantage.com has samples you can order. Bob and I absolutely love the Isopure Low Carb chocolate shake.  I have a "magic bullet" blender and put in ice and some water and it comes out sort of like a frosty from Wendy's.  No aftertaste, either. Unjury  (www.unjury.com) in my opinion is the best unflavored protein on the market.  It's medical qualtiy and mixes well if your liquid isn't hotter than 130 degrees.  I put it in V8, bouillon broth, etc. Good luck p

I love the World Wide Pure Protein Shakes that come in a can already for you to drink. It comes in Frosty Chocolate (my Fav), vanilla, cookies and creme and I believe strawberry. I find them in Trader Joe's or at the Vitamin Shoppe. They are great cold and go down easy - especially the chocolate. Hope this helps and good luck on your upcoming surgery. And by the way, as a fellow bandster, my taste did not change as it does with RNY patients. Maybe some band patients have but I haven't talked to any that notice a difference. Just my 2 cents!

Having recently had surgery and having a tough time with my protein I must agree. I bought a very large container of the one protein I really liked which was Isopure NO CARB vanilla.. .really liked it prior to surgery... now I have a hard time stomaching it...  My tastes have definitly changed since surgery and am amazed at how things I once thought where great I just can't stand them anymore...   I'm having a tough time myself with protein...  I think I might have to try the unflavored since nothing seems to please me enough to want to drink it... not even the ones that Dr. Barba has in his office are pleasing to me..     I probably will go to unjury.com and buy the unflavored they have. I remember being suprised by how good they really were, but before I do that will order a few samples and see if I still do like them and if not then I didnt' spend a lot of money on it.. and if I do.. THANK GOD cause I need to find a way to take in my protein!
