I need a dietician

Hi everyone, It's been one week since I had the WLS. I'm doing very well thank-you. I even walked a mile today. My doctor recommends six weeks of glucerna and water only, after that I may start adding proteins. Are there any dieticians in the Bristol/Farmington area who deal with WLS patients. My doctor doesn't seem concerned at all about post-op eating, and I'd like to talk to someone about foods? or even about a little more variety for drinking. Even better, are the any dieticians who have had WLS? Water and walking are not a problem, but six weeks of glucerna is a problem. That's all I've had for 6 days and now the smell of it makes me gag, and I have to hold my nose to get it down. Bye, Susan

Hi Susan, I don't know who your doctor is but I have not heard of anyone around here having people do six weeks of liquids. That is a bit excessive in my humble opinion. I am not sure what is around Plainville but I will tell you that the dietician at Lawrence and Memorial in New London who spoke to us at a meeting in December was wonderful. She had worked in NYC with WLS patients when this was all kind of new. She was really informative and knew her stuff. The dieticians and dietician students from Yale come to our support meetings but I have to tell you that often the post-ops are educating them...... I would check with your local hospital. Didn't your doctor have you go thru a nutritional evaluation before surgery? If so maybe you could go back to them. Good Luck!! Linda

As a matter of fact, I just got home from a very informative meeting with a dietitian. Amy Wardell, Middlesex Hospital. I also haven't heard of 6 weeks, liquid only and I have done some very extensive research. Mostly, for the first 2-3 weeks liquids only. I can't see how this Dr. could be unconcerned about what foods you are eating. You should be watching your protein to make sure you are getting enough and also taking vitamins. If I were you, I'd call the Dr.'s office to make sure you understand his directions correctly and if this is correct, check into another doctor. Good luck!
