Eating enough?

Hi Everyone... well... I am a little over a month and a half out...and things are going really well. I have had little to no issues, other than I eat too fast and that makes me . I have lost about 46 pounds so far...so I am pretty psyched about that! I read a post about a week ago...and I meant to respond...but time just happened to fly by!!! Someone was asking about how much calories we should be getting into us at this stage in our post op. I believe that the 2 of us were both at about a month and a half out.... I am just about getting 400 calories a day in, (as was the person who posted) and I am worried that it isn't enough. However, I know that there would be NO WAY I could fit another morsel of food into me every day! I probably shouldn't be worried...because all in all I am feeling really good...but I just don't want to get sick or anything! I started at the gym last week, and my energy level seems to be almost back to 100% so I must be doing something right. I have had absolutely NO appetite since December 4th...which I find to be amazing... I am pretty much only eating my meals...because I know I have to. Any thoughts on being 1 1/2 -2 months out and what our food intake should be at now??? And if it should be higher that 400...any suggestions??? Cause I simply can't even think of how I would add anything to what i am doing now!!!!

Hi Joann, My surgery was 12/3/03 and I eat twice as much as you do! I've been wondering if I'm eating too much -- I have my 2 month post op next week, so I guess I'll find out. Are you eating all the protein you need to each day? Are you drinking all the water you should? If you are answering yes, and still only getting 400 cals per day, then you are probably fine. Otherwise, I'd suggest that you increase some so you get enough of the absolute necessities in! God Bless, Kathy Bilodeau Lap RNY 12/3/03 -53 lbs.

Hi Joann, I believe I'm the person who posted that you are referring to. My surgery was 12/1/03 and I am getting in about 400 - to maybe on occasion 550 calories a day. I am also feeling good and have had no problems with getting sick. I am getting all my protein and fluids but my weight loss has been pretty slow. I lost 20 pounds right before surgery and have lost 35 since sugery making it a total of 55. Dr. Aranow laughed at me when I questioned the weight loss at my 1 month visit. He told me to throw my scale away (which I haven't). I'm just wondering if my weight loss is due to the low calorie intake? I'm working at trying to increase it a bit by adding some carbs. Good luck to you. If you'd like to share any other info you can e-mail me at [email protected]

Hi Joann I just posted a new message " What did you eat yesterday?" Maybe this will help us to see where others are getting their calories. Have a good day. Carolyn
