I have been REALLY suffering with sleep apnea... and was so totally bummed out when my sleep study wasn't scheduled until 3/2. Well, I got a call at work yesterday and it's a good thing I asked to be put on the cancellation list- I'm going MONDAY!!! Sleep may soon be a reality- and for someone that's been struggling with this worsening for a long time, let me tell you that's worth jumping up and down with joy!

Dear Fawn Congratulation with the move forward. I DID suffer from severe sleep apnea I realy understand what you are saying...better days ahead of you. Keep in mind that you might not get too much sleep at the study because of all the wires, so plan to do something important the day after. I brought along my own comforter and pillow and that made me feel a little more comfortable, where are you going to have the study? I had mine on Yale. Hugs and from Tove

First of all, Tove... nice to see your picture I've seen your posts before and posted on your support page if I recall- nice to be able to put a face to the name! I'm having it done at Middlesex Hospital. They did suggest to bring your own blanket and pillow so I will... and thanks to the advice of people here, I took the next day off from work just in case my night is as restless as people say it will be. Tove, did you too feel like each day came and went in a fog before you were diagnosed???

Thanks for all your compliments Fawn.......I allways felt like I was in the ozon layer or something, I was half way OK the first two hours in the morning and from there on it was hard to concentrate and even to function probably and just like your say, every day came and left in the fog.....it was rough, I feel so much better now and is very greatful for that. I will send some good wishes your way on Monday (I live in Middletown) and wish you a good night sleep, even I know that will be hard with all those wires.....but soon you will have your C_pap mashine and once you get use to it you will feel so much better doing the day. Hugs to you, Tove

Thanks for your support!!! This board is awesome and I don't know that I'd be this far along in my journey without it

Hi Fawn, Well girlfriend, I hear you and I feel your pain. Sleep has been an issue with me for months....probably close to a year now. I suffered for months and finally got an appt for a sleep study. Had two of those and an adjustment on the pressure of my cpap machine. Now this was about a month prior to surgery that this all occured. I was not sleeping well with the machine. I would wake up every hour and a half like clock work even when using it. It was definitely a better sleep though than without. I at least did not feel I was exhausted anymore. Well post surgery I used it for a week or so but then the pressure was too high and I couldn't stand it. Last week I used a tester machine at home for a week. It has a computer chip that records the pressures that I needed when sleeping. Now I am waiting to hear from the doctor as to the results. I still am not sleeping well but maybe with all my extra energy I am not feeling the effects from the lack of sleep. I get about 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep (I think) and then it is awake....doze...awake etc. etc. My suggestion is when you go for the sleep study, impress upon them that you would like to try a machine that night. If after the first couple of hours they find that you have apnea they will often let you try one out and find a pressure that seems to work for you. Otherwise you have to wait and have another sleep study with a machine.......just more time consuming and takes longer to get relief. Good luck and maybe a good nights sleep . Linda

Thanks for the advice! It's pretty definite that I have sleep apnea- it was preliminarily diagnosed last year when I was hospitalized with pneumonia and severe asthma. Every time I fell asleep, the pulse-oximeter alarm would go off. When the pulmonologist did the physical exam, he said it was obvious I did have sleep apnea, he just needed the test for the numbers and such. I will ask about them trying the machine on me that night.
