Hello, It's two months today that I had my surgery and I am down 37 pounds and 18 inches. I was just curious how other people who had their surgery the same time as me are doing. I am still learning how to adjust to this new life style and trying to get enough protein and calories in to have a significant weight loss. Any in put would be appreciated. Darlene Lap RYN 11/10/03

Hi Darlene, My surgery date was 12/1, and I have been at a weight stand still for two weeks, but it finally starting to move again. I have lost 29 since surgery. It sounds like we are on a similar path. I am also experimenting with getting different foods in. No one really talks about portions sizes for fruits, veggies and other carbs. I know my goals for protein but I'm unsure of all the other so I have really been keeping it to a minimum. I would love to be eating more salad! I thought my weight loss seemed pretty low compared to many others. It's hard not to get discouraged sometimes. Keep up the good work and I'd love to compare notes again. E-mail me if you'd like. Hi Darlene, Glad you posted today as I have finally broken the plateau (or what ever you want to call it) of 3+weeks. I know I have been retaining fluid something fierce. I see Dr. Bell on Tues and my endrocronlogist next Wed. so I will discuss that with both of them. I have lost somewhere between 42 and 45 pounds I think. (different scales) Again once I get weighed in on Tues I will have a more official number. . I just measured again today and have lost about 27 inches all told. My ankles fluctuate a lot. I have been using fitday.com pretty religously so I know that my average for proteins is about 65grams per day, calories about 723 and carbs about 40 grams. I drink at least 64 oz a day but I have found that since I started going to the gym I am able to drink alot more than the 64 oz....... may have something to do with being up extra early in the am!! I do some kind of exercise everyday and have been since about 2 weeks out. I do the Walk Away the Pounds tapes....usually the 2 mile tape now that I am going to the gym. I do the tape on the days I don't go to the gym. I went 5 days last week and twice on Thurs. I am going to the Water Aerobics classes there two evenings a week. I find that I still have to do the 30 minute tape even when I don't go to the gym. I feel funny not doing some kind of exercise. Boy has my life changed. I have never belonged to a gym nor have I ever done any kind of regular exercise for more than a day or two. Sorry this is soooo long but once I get started......... Oh I do drink a protein drink once a day if I haven't gotten all my protein in with food. I use the Proplete Gold either the Vanilla Pineapple or the Banana Cream. They are delicious. I would be glad to share with you what I eat etc. From the sounds of it you are doing fine though. I know it never hurts to compare notes but please don't compare weight loss etc. That is just self defeating. Take care....ttys..... Linda

Hey Darlene, Sounds like you are doing great! I'm glad to hear that things are moving along for you again. We'll need to get together for a decaf tea soon! LOL. Like Linda said - don't compare your weight loss to others, we are all different, and you don't need to be discouraged when you are doing so great. I'll talk to you soon, Kathy

Hi there Darlene, you are doing REAL good and got every reason to be proud of your self. The other poster is right, there is no reason to compare as we are all different (thanks god for that or it would be a boring world to live in if we were the same ) Hugs from Tove

Hi Darlene, You are really doing well!! I had my surgery Nov.3 and have lost approx 54 lbs so far. Everyone is right when they say dont compare to others because its a frustrating trap to get caught in. As long as you are getting in your protien and water daily you will shed those pounds. I find it difficult to get everything in sometimes and find it very difficult to adjust at times. Eating is a whole new experience now...and alot of times its not a good one! Finding foods that work best is the hardest part. God Bless! Ria Lap RNY 11/3/03
