Hello all, Just wanted to say that 2004 is going to be a good healthy year for all of us. I am praying for mary Lou. How is she doing? My surgery date is coming closer everyday. I am a bit nervous. Does anyone have any suggestions that will help before Jan 26th. Jan 26th is the beginning of my journey. I am so proud of all of you that have started journey already. Well let me know if anyone has any pointers.

Hi Patricia, Just take some deep breathes and relax. You will do fine. I am convinced that attitude is 80% of the battle and having a great doctor doesn't hurt either!! Just remember to try and get out of bed as soon as possible and begin walking. Even when you are back at home, keep walking as much as you can. Get to the support group meetings and don't be afraid to ask questions. We are all here for you Let me know if I can do anything for you. If you would like a visitor in the hospital I would be happy to come and or if you need someone to post for you let me know. Just email me and we can chat about that. Take care and have fun!! Linda

Hi Patricia, All I can do is echo Linda! She is exactly right. We have a wonderful surgeon - so no need to worry there. In the hospital do all you can to get up and move - walk as often as you can - it will help you more than you can believe. Follow every instruction you are given, and you will do fine. Until the 26th, enjoy yourself - don't worry, be happy prepare yoursefl for a wonderful new adventure in your life. I am so happy - my whole attitude has changed, I already have more self confidence, I smile all the time, and I feel great! Before the surgery, go ahead and eat the food that you think you will miss the most (although, if you are like me, you really won't miss it at all); go shopping for some smaller clothes (there are lots of sales now) - this will help to get you psyched! In the meantime, if you need to talk to anyone - email me, and I'll be glad to send you my number so we can chat on the phone. I'm more than willing to be there for you to help you through any nervousness you may have. God Bless, Kathy Bilodeau Lap RNY 12/3/03 -38 lbs.

Hi Patricia My name is Donna and I am almost 4 weeks post op. "A bit nervous" is an understatement as far as how I felt before my surgery. I had an open RNY on December 17, 2003 at UConn Medical. As the ladies before me have said, WALK WALK WALK. It sounds funny but it really does help get everything inside back to where it belongs. You may be uncomfortable for a while but I have to say that I felt better as each day passed. I just kept thinking about why I had the surgery and how much of a healthier life I am going to live down the road. I took great comfort right after I got out of the hospital in sitting at my computer and just reading what other people had to say on this web site. It lets you know that what is going on with you is all normal. Best of luck the next couple of weeks. You'll be on the other side in no time at all.
