Hi all, I'm wondering, for those of you who had Lap RNY (especially Dr. Bell's patients), how long before your incisions were healed -- i.e., didn't have any more scabs? I'm 1 month out today, and I still have scabs on ea*****ision site. My PCP seemed surprised that they weren't healed yet (I saw her on Wednesday). I have no pain, swelling or discomfort -- but now I wonder, is this normal? Or should I be concerned? Thanks in advance, Kathy Bilodeau Lap RNY 12/3/03

Hi Kathy, My Incisions were healed and scab free about two or three weeks after surgery. I had butterfly stiches and took them off about two weeks out and the only area that took the longest to heal was around my belly button. The incisions still felt hard for a while but have since softened up. I would think if there is no pain, swelling or discomfort you need not worry, especially since your PCP looked at them. Hope that helps, Darlene (-:

Kathy, Don't worry about the scabs. They will come off on their own when good and ready. As a matter of fact you may want to be careful what you wear for a while. I had a scab catch on a sweater when I was in a store and it was very painful......lol. I had to put a bandaid on it until it fell off completly and then it was fine. Good luck with your trip on Monday and being back in the groove!!! Linda

Hi, Kathy! You were a day behind me and, while I had the band not bypass, I'd imagine that we'd be pretty much on the same level with regard to healing. My scabs are gone on all but one incision, but they are still very red, a little hard if I press on them, and very much in a healing stage. The one that is still a little scabby is where the bottom of my bra always seems to end up, so I'm sure that's what is causing its delay. I've been using Mederma for a couple of weeks - I don't know if it's really doing anything, but it doesn't seem to be harming anything, either.
