Hi everyone I had no problem getting in all my proteins when I was on liquids but since I have been doing the soft mushy stuff my protein count is way down. I get my 2 ounces in per meal and I work really hard to get in all my fluids but every time I have tried to add a protein drink in between meals I feel uncomfortable and too full for my next meal. I have been incredibly faithful about walking on the treadmill and am doing more everyday but am discouraged that the scale hasn't moved much at all in the past two weeks. I was averaging roughly about a pound a day but feel like I'm at a stand still already. My surgery was 12/1. I am reading posts from some of you who had surgery at the same time and you seem to be doing better with your weight loss. I'm also starting to crave more variety! My next appointment with Dr. Aranow is 1/2 so hopefully I will be introducing other things then.

Carolyn Don't be discouraged, you are right about at the time of your first plateau. It happens to all of us. Some it is 2 weeks some 3 weeks. Keep up the great work, hang in there, you are doing the right things, your body just needs to catch up. Just think, YOU don't have to do anything different, your body will do it for you. When I think back to how many diets I gave up on because they weren't working and then I gained all my weight, plus extra back. Does that make any sense? This won't happen this time for you. Your body will kick back in and start working all on its own for you. It's all about absorption!! IT'S NOT YOU!! How great is that??? Hang in there and let me know how your doing! Cheryl

Carolyn, what you are experiencing is really quite normal. I've been there too. Just do the best you can. Concentrate as food for your protein whenever you can (Dr. Aranow prefers that we do not use supplements in the long run) and when you can, get in a small protein shake. It doesnt have to be a full 6 or 8 ounces. The protein grams are a guideline not a rule, so just do the best you can. Don't stress too much about the loss, it will come- really- you're doing fine. If you choose a higher protein food, for example choosing tuna fish over cottage cheese- you'll find you can get more grams in. You can also try to supplement your foods- i.e. add cheese to eggs or add dry milk to yogurt or cottage cheese too, so that they pack a little more of a protein punch! I know what you mean about the variety- at your stage, I would have killed for something DIFFERENT anything at all would have done as long as it had a different taste! This will pass. Good luck to you and hang in there! I'm sure Dr A will be very pleased with your progress at your appointment.
