Restaurant Problems?

I went out to eat today at one of our favorite little places in town, Sophias Restaurant. I've eaten there hundreds of times - and the food is great. Since I can eat so little, I planned on having a few bites of food from my husband's plate -- so I told the waitress in advance that I was a gastric bypass patient and I couldn't eat but a few bites. She told me she would have to charge me a $3 plate charge . I asked to speak with the manager (who I know) and he never came out to see me. I don't mind paying the $3 -- its more of the principal. They ended up bringing out 2 plates of food - one for me and one for my husband. This, of course, is not what I wanted, I only wanted one plate of food for him, and I would have a few bites. I'm wondering, what have others done when eating out? I really don't want to order a whole meal and then have leftovers for weeks. Appetizers are usually full of fat and/or carbs, and I prefer something more healthy. Do you have favorite places that seem to accommodate our new way of eating? Any places you will stay away from now, because they won't help? Any suggestions and ideas are appreciated. Regards, Kathy Bilodeau Lap RNY 12/3/03 -36 lbs!

Kathy, Restaurants like all other businesses need to make a profit and many have a plate sharing charge. My suggestion, pay the 3 dollars and be thankful that this new life style will allow us to enjoy restaurant food without over eating. Not to mention, the savings on not having to order an entire dinner.

Kathy, you sweet thing, always looking for a deal just like me! Why should we pay full price if we don't eat the food??? I am just the same. Here's how I handle this. We love this one little hole in the wall Italian Place here, they serve huge portions!! I always order the veal and then I have lunch and dinner for the next day......it really works out well. On the other hand, give me a break, a $3.00 plate fee? Come on, that's petty. I would take my business elsewhere! There are plenty of great restaurants in our great state! We went for Chinese the other night, it is great for people like me, I can order appetizers to my hearts content! Terriyaki beef, shrimp! All protein and I have left overs! Happy New Year! Cheryl
