I'M THIRSTY 24/7 !!!
Hi All
Had surgery at Danbury Hosp on the 8th. Had a few problems, but made it through fine. BUT, so far, all I notice is that patients don't want to drink the necessary amounts. I don't get it. My mouth feels dry all the time.....even WHILE I'm sucking on ice chips. I take a water pill for my blood pressure...we're going to see if stopping it makes the difference. I forgot to mention that I've been like this for some years....can't really guess how long.
Has anyone else had to deal with this?? I'm drinking more than I should, but spacing it out and approved by my doctor. It's horrible to have a tongue that feels like it's covered with fur.
Someone give me a clue.
Thanks, Debbie
Debbie:
You're not diabetic, are you? That could possibly have something to do with it, although usually diabetics are peeing all the time, too. I know I was.
Also, are there any other meds that you're taking that could be causing it?
Are you only drinking water? I get "furry tongue" sometimes, too, and something tart, like Crystal Lite, usually takes care of it.
Hope some of this helps!
Bette
Hi Betty - thanks but no, I'm not diabetic...but have asked for tests twice because I figured I MUST be. It's such a problem now with a limited diet. Seltzer is the best I've found for quenching the thirst but right now, I'm rinsing my mouth with it and spitting it out into a big plastic container... gotta love that Tupperware! I also take Toprol, again for blood pressure, and Paxil, which I take because my daughter tells me I make everyone nervous without it. Sheesh. She's 30 and thinks she is the mother now.
I kept trying to tell them in the hospital that the jello, the broth and the Crystal Lite Lemonade made it WORSE, but they just kept bringing it to me.
I'm calling my PCP tomorow to talk thinks over with her. Hopefully I'll be able to fix this.
Thanks for your email... my first as part of this message board. NOW..... I'm going to take a nap. My bladdar is ready to explode and I'm a little tired.
Thanks again. Debbie
