Getting in the right amount of fluid and protein post op
Hi everyone...
Well...I can hardly believe it ...but I am now 6 days post op! I am doing really well....but I am having the hardest time getting the 48-64 oz of fluid into me... I am barely able to get the protein into me every day...and I am just soooo full!!! Is this normal for the first few weeks? Or should I be concerned? I go see my surgeon tomorrow...so I will certainly ask him...but thought I would throw this out to the experts!!!
Hi Joann,
I'm just 1 week out today - and I feel really full as well. My surgeon has me on 2 oz of Ensure or Slim Fast 3 times a day. Other than that, I'm just on liquids. I'm getting everything in, and I can't even imagine trying to have any type of food - or more protein drinks -- I'm full!
I will say, however, that yesterday I felt hungry for the first time since surgery - as soon as I had my 2 oz, however, I was fine.
I think its normal.

Hi Joann,
Don't stress too much this early on about getting in all your protein and fluids. Do the best you can. Remember that protein drinks count toward you fluids!. I am sure your doctor will tell you that you are doing great. As you move further along you will find it easier to get those fluids in. I will tell you that I have had to develop some routines though based on when I do better with fluids and food etc. I find it much easier to get down fluids in the evening than the mornings but it really depends on what I am doing all day. Good luck with your journey. It is alot of trial and error in the beginning
