Hi everyone... Well...I can hardly believe it ...but I am now 6 days post op! I am doing really well....but I am having the hardest time getting the 48-64 oz of fluid into me... I am barely able to get the protein into me every day...and I am just soooo full!!! Is this normal for the first few weeks? Or should I be concerned? I go see my surgeon tomorrow...so I will certainly ask him...but thought I would throw this out to the experts!!!

Hi Joann, I'm just 1 week out today - and I feel really full as well. My surgeon has me on 2 oz of Ensure or Slim Fast 3 times a day. Other than that, I'm just on liquids. I'm getting everything in, and I can't even imagine trying to have any type of food - or more protein drinks -- I'm full! I will say, however, that yesterday I felt hungry for the first time since surgery - as soon as I had my 2 oz, however, I was fine. I think its normal. Kathy Bilodeau Lap RNY 12/3/03

Hi Joann, Don't stress too much this early on about getting in all your protein and fluids. Do the best you can. Remember that protein drinks count toward you fluids!. I am sure your doctor will tell you that you are doing great. As you move further along you will find it easier to get those fluids in. I will tell you that I have had to develop some routines though based on when I do better with fluids and food etc. I find it much easier to get down fluids in the evening than the mornings but it really depends on what I am doing all day. Good luck with your journey. It is alot of trial and error in the beginning

Joann, At 6 days post-op don't stress yourself over this. It will get easier with time. Your body is healing and adjusting right now. Although it is important to get the protein and fluids in... Don't be too focused on a particular number at this point. Just do what you can and keep in mind that it will get easier every day. Sounds like you doing really well... Continued success to you. Kim

Joann~ Don't fret. Those numbers are what you are going to be working your way up to, not what you should be getting right now. Before you know it you will be able to get it all in, but it takes time. Muah!
