Low Carb

To add to the earlier post about the new low carb milk... I wanted to let you all know about several products that I have found recently. They are helping me with this new way of eating... and maybe some of you will find them helpful too. I have tried the Carb Countdown milk that was posted about previously. I really like it. I had been craving chocolate milk and it really hit the spot. I also got the white milk and love it too. I've been using these when I mix protein shakes too. Also, I've heated the chocolate to have some high protein hot chocolate. YUM. Someone on the main message board had posted about Sugar Free honey too. I found it at Super Wal-Mart last week. Its Honeytree brand. I tastes just like honey and with the same consistency. Just be careful if you are sensitive with sugar alcohols... some people may dump if they use too much of this. It works to add a teaspoon to a cup of hot tea. Also last week... and also at Walmart SuperCenter... I found No Sugar Added Egg Nog. I had been craving egg nog and was just about to break down and make some from scratch when I found this. It does list sugar grams on the nutrition label... but its from the milk that is used to make the egg nog. It was very tasty and creamy. I've also found some low carb frozen dinners lately (about time... I say) Most frozen dinners are loaded with carbs. I found Mike's Low Carb Gourmet at Big Y. These are fairly expensive ($7.99 per dinner), but I got three... almost four meals out of one. And the one that I tried was very good. I also found another brand at Walmart SuperCenter... and I'm sorry that I don't remember the brand... but they were about $3.99 per meal. I haven't tried these yet, but I'll let you know when I do. This next one is a protein drink find: It's EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control drinks. I know that these have been out for a while... but I just recently found that they have fruit flavored (not creamy) drinks. They have Fruit Citrus Splash and Mixed Berry. These are wonderful. VERY good taste, 15g protein per 11 ounce drink, 0g sugar, and only 60 calories. I was very impressed with these. And now the biggest, best-est find that I made all week is: Ruby Tuesday restaurants now have a low-carb menu. This is very exciting news. I was really impressed with the selection... they even have a lowcarb cheescake that is to die for. Really yummy! Check it out at http://www.rubytuesday.com/whatsnew/default.htm. Also they now have Splenda on the tables... Yahoo!!! Sorry to ramble... but it always excites me to see all of the new sugar free or low carb items that are popping up in stores and restaurants. Hope that you find these items helpful.

Thanks for all the great tips Kim!! It is good to know that there are more and more things out there for us. I have noticed alot of media attention about low carb foods these past few weeks. Hopefully we shall see alot more places getting on the bandwagon. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving

Ellie, The Ruby Tuesday's in Lisbon is the one that I went to. I ordered the cajun fish (I think it was called Low Carb Catch), then I ordered a slice of the cheesecake TO GO. Delish!

Hi Kim, Thank you for mentioning all of those wonderful low carb items to the group as well, I sometimes hesitate because I am preop and still getting all of my appointments out of the way. I wanted to add a few items as well, Breyers came out with a selection of low carb ice creams and treats, this one is too good to be true. I bought the chocolate ice cream, fudge bars, fruit bars, and chocolate covered vanilla ice creams. Ok so I went over board, but I don't eat them all the time just wanted something on hand for when I feel a craving. They are all relatively low carb, by that I mean the net carb count, and the chocolate ice cream and fudge bars taste the same and unlike any low carb ice cream or treat I have ever tried. They actually taste like real ice cream. Again take caution with these items but feel secure in the fact that your family can eat it if it bothers you because it tastes like normal ice cream. I receive a couple of low carb newsletters and I was also told that Blimpie's has gone low carb, they have started in NY but they will branch out soon to other areas. I am wondering post surgery will what they are offering be way to much, sure you can save it for later but it's not so great later. I guess the point is that there are more options for people who have had this surgery as well as low carbers. Continues Success to All, Lynn

Lynn, Pre-op or Post-op... we all have something to contribute. Don't hesitate to post. Thanks for mentioning these ice creams made by Breyers... I tried the fudge bars and they are excellent. I also bought a container of the vanilla ice cream. These products are much better than the other low carb ice creams that I've tried. They have a great creamy texture. It really helps to have products like these to give ourselves a safe treat occassionally. All the best to you... Kim
