Are you always hungry?

Oh, that is awful!  Have you mentioned this to your surgeon?  You are only ten days out, that should not be happening this early. Where in CT are you from?  I am in Danbury.  Did you have your procedure at Danbury Hospital?  I am going in on Thursday and I'm real nervous.

How much weight have you lost in the first 10 days, any yet?  I don't really know what to expect, as far as how much in how long.  I guess everyone is different.  Aside from being hungry, how are you feeling?  I'm so glad everything went ok.  Is there a lot of pain?  How long were you in the hospital?

I did not have my surgery at Danbury Hospital. I went in at 222 lbs. and the day I came home I was retaining a lot of fluid and weighed in at 231 lbs.  Today I weigh 215 lbs. so in 11 days I have lost 16 lbs. I was in the hospital from Thursday, 9/13 to Sunday, 9/16. The pain was managable after the first 2 days in the hospital and I haven't taken any pain meds, not even Tylenol. I feel great, though, no heart burn or vomiting. Don't be nervous. I feel this was the best thing I could have done to regain my health. I see my surgeon this coming Wednesday and will mention the hunger to him. It is probably my own inability to differentiate between head-hunger and real hunger.  The best of luck on your upcoming surgery. The way I look at it is the beginning of a whole new life and a whole new way of life!

HAPPINESS IS FOUR CATS!

Ya know Mousie, I am on the 1200 cal post-op diet and I am pre-op. I just really started it today and I have a feeling I am going to starve. BUT... I have my big ole stomach. After surgury I will have a nice and tiny stomach that will only hold a little and will keep it in there longer so I won't feel hungry. I have a friend that is 2 years post-op and she said she sometimes has to remind herself to eat. I figure that I will be hungry now but after surgery, I wont.

Oh, don't worry.  I am sure post op it will be much different.  That is the idea, right? To get  full with less food?  I'm counting on it.  Good luck with your surgery!  When is it? Mousie

Hi there! I just had my surgery on July 16th. There are times when I feel hungry although it is not like it was before surgery.   Most days I too have to remind myself to eat.   I can't eat beef.  I did have 2 bites of a meatball last night.  That worked out. I can eat pork, if I am very careful.  Ham steak for me is great. I can eat the lamb chops that look like lollipops as long as I put them between 2 coffee filters and pat them off (very greasy) I can't eat chicken.  No matter what I do to it...it feels like I ate a boulder.

I can eat Turkey.

I don't do carbonated beverages.  I am too afraid of bloating my pouch. I drink small sips of milk ocassionally, but reserve my dairy intake to the very large cup of coffee from the gas station in the early morning. I NEVER, EVER GO NEAR ANYTHING WITH SUGAR, SUGAR ALCOHOL, REFINED SUGAR, HONEY, ANY TYPE OF CORN SYRUP... OR ANYTHING THAT HAS MORE THAN 5 G OF CARBS PER SERVING. NO CHIPS, CRACKERS, COOKIES etc. I eat melon, berries, grapes...with no problems.  I don't drink fruit juices. I drink water...not the 64 ounces I am supposed to (MY BAD!) but I am working on it. I try to eat 3 meals a day.  Never more than that....usually less.  When I skip a meal, I will substitute it with a MYOPLEX lite protein drink.

I don't eat any dry boxed cereal.  Too many carbs. I love farina and pastina.   So far since my surgery in July, I have lost 65 pounds as a result of the surgery and in total since February 2007, I have lost 100 lbs. Just remember, what works for me, may not work for you.   Hope this helps. ~ Michele
