I have not posted in a very very very longtime maybe some of you guys remember me. I had surgery on June 5th 06, and I have lost about 138 425(I say 148) and I was a lil frustrated because I wanted to be 220 by my first year anniversary(I failed at that). I have been stuck between 279-292 for about 4 months(last week I lost 4lbs 292-287) and this journey has been so stressful.

I am trying to maintain and not give up on this journey, I just ask that you all keep me in prayer, if you are a lurker and want to send me a private message or have some exercise advise e-mail me at [email protected] God Bless you all!!

As one CT Board member of faith to another, I wanted to give you the perspective that a wise gentleman from my church gave me years ago when I was struggling a bit with some complications.  He held my hand and told me that he thanked God every day for giving the opportunity to get healthy-- he gently reminded me that, although I was ultimately responsible for my successes and failures,  I shouldn't allow myself to get disheartened when I faced setbacks because ultimately, he felt in his heart, I would always be in God's hands.  Now, Bro, he could have just as easily been holding your hand, or any of us for that matter, because there is a certain miraculous quality to how the RNY works to help us avoid hunger (at least initially) and guide us to some weight loss (not all of the neuro-chemical changes that occur after RNY are fully understood yet).

So, to help you feel that miracle, maybe you try a few things to change your routine-- maybe you try something that you coudn't do when you were heavier.  When I was a bit earlier out, I would throw on the old shirt that I always wore, or put on the really big pants to help shock me into remembering how big I was, which (in turn) helped to appreciate my progress and keep me motivated.  There were also days (and I admit that this method isn't for everyone) when I would just put myself on protein shakes for a day or two, partly to prove to myself that I wasn't wedded to food and partly to boost my protein intake and restrict my carbs-- for me, I found that I had some confidence and that the added weight loss that the high-protein/low-carb regimen provided some motivation.

Hope this, and my prayers, will help you through your rough spot.

Hey, Bro, Don't lose heart....sometimes we hit a plateau and need to bust through it.  I stopped losing over one year ago, but haven't gained, so, I'm happy.  I don't think I'll lost anymore...I would have loved to get under 200lbs, but, I'm stuck between 201-206.  Dr Aranow said he doesn't see me losing another 25-30 lbs, but 5 or 10 is possible.  I've gone from over 330 lbs down to about 200, so that's 135 lbs, and nothing to sneeze at.  Just as your's is nothing to sneeze at, either. Have you been to your follow up appts w/ your surgeon and nutritionist?  Maybe they can add some insight as to what you may need to add or take away to help you. I'm not one who exercises a lot, but I do find when I step up my walking to a very, very brisk walk, I lose weight.  I just wish I could become as addicted to exercise as I was addicted to food...I don' t see it happening. There is a plateau buster diet that some use to get back on track and get the carbs out of our system's and get outselves back into fat burning mode.  You may want to try it: Here is the Plateau Buster Diet some use to get going again. Be sure and check with your doctor first... Plateau Buster Diet #1 - Do this for 10 days to break a plateau #2 - Drink 2 quarts of water a day #3 - You must have (at least) 45 grams of protein supplement and all your vitamins/minerals supplements each day (some suggest at least 60 and up to 80 gr) #4 - You may consume up to 3 oz of the following high protein foods, 5x a day beef pork chicken turkey lamb fish eggs low fat cheese cottage cheese plain yogurt or artificially sweetened (no sugar added)  peanut butter beans/legumes You may also have: sugar free popsicles tea or coffee sugar free soda sugar free jello broths/bullion (sp?) crystal light drinks #5 - If it's not on the list, you can't have it for 10 days!!!! #6 - Keep a food diary and try to get up to 30 mins of exercise daily Hang in there...don't lose hope...Rome wasn't built in a day! Hey Bro, I have not yet had the surgery since I am still working on meal planning and working out. (a bout of anemia kicked my butt on working out but I plan to hit the gym up tomorrow night and if I feel up to it tonight) I figured that you have some great advice from post-ops so I would mix in the perspective of a pre-op to try to put it back in focus from the start. I am currently (as of my last weigh in with Liz) 358. My all time high was 387. I have lost almost 30 pounds and feel great about that loss. I have worked hard to loose the last 15 for Dr. A. At this point I will be Happy with what ever I loose from this great tool that I will be given. I, like the rest of us here, lose weight and put it back on and then some. After surgery I will do anything in my power not to gain it back but I will also be greatful for what ever I can get off. Dr. A. said he expects me to get down to 211. I just about cried when he said that because when I was a senior in High School I wasn't even that small. I guess the point of this is remember where you came from and far you have come and try not to get frustrated with what you think you still have to loose.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.
