This may seem like a silly question, but can you wear your own pj's after surgery. I hate those hospital gowns. I figured if they wanted us walking around it would probably be ok to bring my own. It's the silly things that are filling my thoughts. Can anyone help? Any other items you can suggest bringing would be helpful also. Thanks

Hi Carolyn: I would NEVER want to wear my own pj's in the hospital. I can tell you from experience (open RNY 4/2/03) they will get stained. The drains you have drain red stuff, the rooms run very warm and you perspire a lot!! Which is why I strongly suggest bringing a small clip on fan. I am not sure which hosp you are having your surgery in, but at UConn Health Center, Kim's hubby found a way to clip hers on the bed. They can change your johnny umpteen times a day if it gets stinky so you will always feel fresh. I also remember always wanting ice chips by my bed. They were wonderful to crunch and the nurses never minded bringing them to me. When is your surgery date?? Let me know if this helps! Cheryl in Burlington

Hi Carolyn. I had surgery with the same surgeon and he makes us ware a binder (it feels good, feels like it's holding everything together) and I had brought with my some silky smoth, spaghetty strap neighties which I wore under the binder and then used the 'johnie' as a housecoat on top. The silky 'thingy' under the binder realy help me feel so much more comfortable and special plus it took away some of the irratation from the binder. I didn't ware it untill I got the drain out the second day and was able to shower on my own, but I absolute recommend it. All the best of luck and prayers for a smooth recovery for you. Hugs
