Proving It

Hey All !

I am getting very excited the closer I get to being done with all my preliminary stuff. I have only a couple visits left. Something I think I am going to have a hard time with is proving that I have been obese for at least the last 5 years. I had never been one to go to the Dr's before this past year. Besides visiting a walk in care office 1 or 2 times during the past 12 years. How else can I prove to them that I have been obese for the past 20 years. ( I only have to prove the last 5 )

Matt, you sure have been fortunate to have stayed so healthy up to this point. If you don't have much from any doctors how about any health club memberships, old school records, photos, and all the diet attempts you have made over the years, what you tried, what you loss and gained back. Any physcials for a job?  Best of luck Sher

Did you attend any WW meetings or anything organized like that? I know that has worked in the past for others. Your insurance company may require a 6 month supervised try at losing weight. If it does... have your doctor document each visit as such. Good luck. T.

Congrats on almost getting it all done - it feels like forever to get to the point of actually scheduling the surgery!

If you don't have medical records, pictures, etc. in addition to your written statement, perhaps they will accept a written testamonial from family or friends? It's worth a shot!

Best of luck to you!

Hi Matt - best of luck as you near the end of the preliminary stage; gosh, I'm trying to remember what proof I had to submit to my insurance company.  I think all I had to do was list my attempts to lose weight over the past several years; other than that, my PCP wrote a brief letter citing that the surgery was medically necessary due to my co-morbidities. In that letter, he substantiated my attempts to lose weight, as well as noted my genetic predisposition to morbid obesity based on my medical history and profile.  Can you get that much from you PCP? Good luck and keep us posted. Maureen

It definately is an interesting situation.  I know someone who has been to the doctors frequently and would never allow them to weigh themselves.  Let me see what they say.
