Sharing
Hi everyone, I was wondering if everyone would like to share a daily menu or a sample of what a typical day's consumption is. It would also be a good idea to list how far out you are. I'll go first
Breakfast: 3 oz Dannon light with 10 gr of protein powder
Lunch: 2 oz tuna with chopped celery and 1 tsp ff mayo
Dinner: 3 oz hamburg grilled on George Forman grill with 1 slice
tomato & 1 tsp ketchup
Snack: 1/2 cup sf pudding w/ 1 T free cool whip
I had my surgery on 7/16/03
I hope everyone feels comfortable enough to participate because I think we can not only help pre-ops but also give those of us that are post-ops some new ideas.
Have a great week everyone and best wishes wherever you are in your journey, Mary Lou
Hi,
I am 3 weeks out..on the soft food stage...
breakfast...1/4 cup of ricotta part skim cheese
lunch creamy tomato soup (about 8 oz)
splurge...(2 stuffed cherry peppers)...(very low carbs) stuffed w/proscutto & provolone
dinner soft fish 3 oz.
some kind of starch like potatoes
ff pudding for dessert.
I am so glad you came up with this I have been very curious what everyone else eats. I had my surgery January 22, 2003
breakfast today 6oz protein drink (real meal)
snack 4 staceys twisted pasta fat free
lunch 4oz beef barley soup (I have been cold all day)
dinner tonight 2oz turkey meatloaf and a tablespoon of rice
will post again
great idea! i wish i was as good as you. very strict diet. i knew iwasn't doing my best but, i never dreamed i was this bad. i had my surgery may 15,2003 and i'm down about 75 lbs on a good day, i go up and down. i usually skip breakfast because i hate breakfast food, i have a sandwich or two chicken thighs for lunch and a protien bar either late morning or late afternoon, then i have a 3oz steak or chicken with green beans for dinner sometimes 3 oz scallops or shrimp. then i have popcorn or pretzels for a snack. i realize now i eat too much and at the wrong time but, i thought as long as i got my protein in that was all that matters. i never use ff mayo it's the real thing or nothing. ieat less in portions but, i don't use diet foods i can't stand them. i need to change my habits but, i don't knoe if i can. beth

I can eat more than this without any problem but I have to use good old will power to stop. I hope I can hold onto the will power this time!

Kathy,
LOL!!!! Not a real armadillo egg. That is just what the recipe is called. It is basically a jalapeno pepper stuffed with low fat cream cheese, surrounded by ground turkey with a few seasonings, rolled in saltine cracker crumbs and shredded cheddar/Jack cheese. It was really good!
Heather
First let me say that I think this is a great idea. Thank you, Mary Lou.
Also, if anyone is interested in receiving the "Armadillo Egg" recipe that is mentioned above... feel free to email me. Also, if you would like to be included on the list to receive a weekly recipes email you can email me for that also.
I'm almost 5 months out from surgery. I have found that the best thing for me... is to stay on a schedule when it comes to eating. So here is an idea of my typical daily eating (and supplements) schedule:
6:30 am - take iron and vitamin C
8:00 am - 6 ounces of decaf coffee
9:30 am - Breakfast: usually yogurt or cottage cheese and very occassionally I might have cream of wheat w/protein added. Also, I take calcium, B12, and vitamins A & D at this time
10:30 am to 11:30 am - sipping water or chomping on ice. During this time I take my multi vitamin.
12:30 pm - Lunch: usually cottage cheese or some type of soup. (I don't want to risk getting sick at work, so I play it safe.) I take more calcium at this time.
1:30 pm to 3:00 - sipping on water, chomping on ice. Occassionally I will have a can of V-8 juice. I take my vitamin E during this time also.
4:00 pm - Snack: usually protein based. (My favorite snack is cottage cheese salad (or dip) on a cheese chip. + more calcium
5:00 pm to 6:00 pm - sipping on liquids. (Usually Propel water, Crystal Light Lemonade in the bottles, broth, or hot tea)
7:00 pm - Dinner: Varies, but my favorites are tuna salad on a cheese chip or green chili soup (homemade). Some times I just have tiny amounts of whatever my husband is having.
8:00 pm - 9:00 pm - A protein drink (usually 20-30 grams of protein) w/calcium added to the mix.
10:00 pm - Snack: I usually don't get around to having this snack... but if I do its usually a piece of string cheese, a cheese chip, or sometimes a few nuts.
I found myself starting to graze about a month ago when I learned that I could eat more.
Sticking to this schedule keeps me so busy just getting in my doctors suggested 3 meals, 2 snacks, and plenty of fluids per day... that I don't have time to get hungry or think about grazing.
I didn't include amounts above... but I can usually eat 2 - 4 ounces at a meal. Depending on the texture of course...
Hi Mary Lou- This is a great idea! It has helped me alot. I am 3 weeks post-op and this is where I am at:
Morning: 8 oz protein shake (37 gr. protein)
Noon: 8 oz protein shake (37 gr. protein)
Dinner: 4 oz soup
Snack: 3 oz SF/FF yogart
I drink water and crystal light throughout the day. I have tried adding new foods but most of the time I am not hungry and the new foods made me feel awful.
