Lap Band on 09/04/07 with
Hi- I am scheduled for lap band surgery at middlesex with Dr. Aranow next tuesday the 4th.  I cant believe it is finally here, and I am more excited than I can even describe.  Does anyone have any info...tips...reminders...for when I go in the hospital?  Anything you found yourself saying "I wish I knew that...or I wish someone had told me that".   I know I will be walking the halls of North 4 as soon as I am able.   I meet with Liz (dietitian) on Tuesday for the post op diet.  Anyone have two-cents to add? Any and all tidbits appreciated!!  :)  Laura.
Highest (MAY 2007)-269.  Pre-Op- 240.  Goal- 138-ish.

Congratulations!  I brought breath spray with me to the hospital and it was great to have when my mouth was so dry my tongue was sticking to the roof of my mouth!  I wish someone had told me to make sure I had a pillow in the car to hug on the ride home!

Good luck on Tuesday!

Hi, Just wanted to wish you the best of luck!  I had my GB with Dr. Aranow on 8/13.  Say hi to Sola, Mary, and Erica (my fav. nurse and PCT) for me.  Seriously though, I would say don't be shy about asking for what you need.  If the pain med isn't cutting it, ask for something different.  Ask for extra pillows if you're not comfortable.  You're only staying one night, right?  I guess that the only thing I wasn't really prepared for (and mostly because I ignored this factor) was the emotional highs and lows you will go through.  I guess nothing really prepares you for that.  I'm feeling more even now, thankfully. Good luck, jen

Hi Laura, I have got to tell you this hospital is top notch. From beginning to the end they were great with me. You just have to ask for whatever it is you need and they will oblige you. I had mine done on June 20th. I feel great. The nurse when she took me down to the operating room held my hand and gave me a big hug and reassured me I would do fine. I agree with the pillow idea bring one for the ride home. I wish I had had one. Also make sure when you walk because of the anesthesia you won't be able to complete your mile right away, don't be afraid to ask the nurses to help put your pressure boots back on, because you won't be able to bend over. Which brings another point. Wear flip flops or something you won't have to bend over to put on. Oh yeah and comfortable loos fitting clothing. I went shopping before and bought some nice cotton tops which are soft. Also when I walked I brought my I pod. Since you probably won't be feeling better till the night time anyway walk at night. You won't be getting much sleep with the nurses checking on you, ie. blood pressure pain meds, that sort of thing. Make sure you walk, walk, walk because it will help move the anesthisia out of oyur system faster. Every lap I did I felt better. I thought the first 4 or 5 I was going to get sick but the more I did walk the more it went away. Good luck to you I am sure you will do awesome!

Good Luck Laura, I'll be thinking of you.  We are polishing off a spot for you on the loser's bench.  You've gotten a lot of great advice. Take care, Bev
