Ok folks, I need your feedback. I have NO ENERGY! I am only 4 weeks out, eating pureed foods, getting in all my vitamins, 64 plus oz of water and about 70 gms of protein a day. I am walking 20 mins a day and doing some arm exercises 3 or 4 times a week with 3 pound weights. Overall I feel good, but my energy is totally zapped! Compared to pre surgery I would say I have about 1/3 of what I used to have. It stinks! It will improve, right? Someone told me as long as I am losing, I will be at a deficit with my energy! Is this right? Thanks for your feedback, Lisa

It will get better.  You need to give yourself a break.  Your body has been though a lot and is still adjusting.  Not to mention the drastic drop in the calories you were taking in to what you are taking in now.  It will imporve... just hang in there.

Hi Lisa - Two of my closest friends both had the RNY surgery and they both took about 6 weeks to get their energy - considering this - I'd say at 4 weeks it is most likely normal  to still feel zapped - but a call to the doctor couldn't hurt just to make sure! Best of luck to you!
Warm Regards - Tammy -

I'm with you but I have no excuse.  I have been out of my B-12 pills for about 3 weeks and have not gotten more.  Are you taking them.  It could help if you are not.

Lisa, You have to give yourself at least 8 weeks to fully feel back to normal.  You went through major surgery with general anesthesia.  That alone makes adds to it.  And now, that you're basically being malnurished with not eating like you used to, your body is crying out, WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME? You have to rest when you feel like you need to.  I did.  I really didn't spring bac****il week 8...Are you taking your chewable vitamins?  That is important.  Your B-12, too.  Add that in if you haven't. You seem to be doing everything right, keep it up.  The energy will come back in a few weeks.  Until then, rest when you can, keep up the exercise and moving, and getting in your protein... Your energy WILL come back...believe me.  In leaps and bounds.  Your body right now is recovering from major surgery and adjusting to the new nurtirion your feeding it. Paula

Thanks everyone or writing. I am taking my multi and my B-12 religiously along with the calcium and prilosec. So I guess I just need to give my body more time. That's ok, I just was surprised and HOW little energy I had. Thanks again, Lisa

Hi Lisa, Like everyone else has stated your body is going through quite a bit right now.  Make sure you listen to what it is saying... if you need a nap take one.  I took a lot of naps during my first few weeks out after surgery.   PS.. I was 4 weeks out & tried to repaint my bedroom... what a dummy!    Do your best to get your protein in.  It will definately help in your recovery.     You're on the right track with excercising.  I also took walks every day and it definately helps physically.   Around week 8ish I started feeling more like my self.  I was also weaning off of anti-depressants after surgery & I think part of my lack of energy & dizziness was due to withdrawal from the meds... It does get easier and the energy will return.  Just really focus on what your body is telling you.  Make sure you get your liquids & protein in every day.  This will also help with recovery and keeping you hydrated.  Mickey
