Comparison

Since I have been asked so many times the difference between the two surgeons that I worked with, I thought I would post the comparison here. I started out with Keith Zuccala at Danbury Hospital and actualy had a surgery date which I cancelled. Neil Floch actually did the surgery. NF works with a physician assistant. KZ works with a nurse. NF has never had to do a conversion (lap to open). KZ has had to. NF has never lost a patient from GBS. KZ has lost a patient(s). NF and staff are very friendly. KZ and staff are not. NF tests for h pylori. KZ does not. NF asks for an upper GI. KZ does not. NF retirns calls in about 1 hour. KZ never returned one of my calls. NF answers e-mail. KZ does not. NF is personable. KZ is not. NF has support groups just for post-ops. KZ does not. NF gives writen info about his program. KZ does not. An internet check shows that NF has published extenively. KZ showed 1 artile and that was about "financial implications of a procedure." These are just my personal experiences. But, due to these issues, I had my surgery done by NF and have not regretted it for an instant! My points will be the following: Trust your gut instincts. INTERVIEW at least 2 surgoens before you decide who will operate on you. YOU are your own best advocate for your health care. Your physician should have good bedside manner and must LISTEN to you and your concerns without being dimissive. Remeber that whatever surgeon you choose, he/she works for you - you pay them. Don't be afraid to check references. If someone has something negative to say about a surgeon.....check it our for yourself....otherwise it is all hearsay. Remember that everyone's experiences are unique to them - your experiences may differ. (Many people are happy with KZ- I just wasn;t one of them.) You should NEVER have to feel as though you should apologize for any question you ask or any feeling that you have. I wish everyone the best in their respective journey.
